The NY Times had a detailed article into the lives of director Zack Snyder and his producing wife Deborah Johnson Snyder. It's an interesting read. Snyder directs movies and Johnson produces them for him. That's fine for small budget movies. But what about big budget ones like Superman? If a studio only wants Zack Snyder, can they be split apart?
Here's what the article said:
"Hiring these two, as Warner Brothers has recently done for its revival of the “Superman” film franchise, is strictly a package deal. If a film company doesn’t want her to be one of the producers, “it’s a deal breaker,” said Mr. Snyder, now 44. “Our relationship is husband and wife, director and producer. My wife is my best friend. I trust Debbie’s taste and way of navigating the world.” (For “Superman,” they, and others, have chosen Henry Cavill, he of the cleft chin, strong jaw and perfectly bulked body, to star.)"
The article also talked about getting ready for the Sucker Punch premiere:
"The Snyders are now trying to determine where to house both of their families for the March 23 premiere of “Sucker Punch” in Los Angeles.
“My parents, sister and aunts are in New Jersey, and his sister, nephew, niece and dad are in Massachusetts, and they’re all coming,” Ms. Snyder said. “Some will be at hotels because we can’t fit everything.”
But that is just one plot point within the complex story that is their lives. “We’re starting on ‘Superman,’ and we’re trying to get two of the kids into high school, and one into college,” she added."
