Anthony Hopkins Briefly Talks Thor And His Own Past With Comic Books!

The actor, who plays Odin in Thor, once again shares his delight of being a part of the upcoming movie and reveals that this isn't actually his first experience with comic books...

We already know from past interviews that Anthony Hopkins didn't look at a single comic book in preparation for his role as the Lord of Asgard, Odin, in the upcoming Marvel Studios movie. However, he has recently revealed that this isn't actually his first time delving into comic books as it turns out that he was once something of a fan of the genre!

"When I was a kid, in the postwar years, I used to read Captain Marvel, which was sent to me by an ex-GI, an American soldier," Hopkins recalls. "And I used to read Superman - I knew all that stuff - and I guess Thor is the same genre, is it? But I haven't kept up with comics. I know it's a whole cult, all over the world, Asia and Japan, so I'm thrilled to be in it."

Ah well, good to know he's been a fan (well, sort of!) at some point anyway! While I always think it's nice to know that an actor has taken at least a quick look at the comic books before portraying one of the characters on the big or small screen, I have no doubt that Hopkins will still deliver one hell of an amazing performance! What do you guys think?

Directed by Kenneth Branagh and also starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston and Natalie Portman, Thor is set to be released in 3D on April 29 in the UK and May 6 in the US!

He was probably reading comics in the 50's before Thor was ever created. Actually Marvel was Atlas comics back then so he probably never heard of Marvel.

I think it's not so much that he read comics as a kid that relieves me, but that he doesn't view the medium and its readers with scorn and contempt.

not even sir anthony hopkins is excused from read source material....it's kind of egotistical and dumb to guess what role to bring to the table....i'm sorry i trust the guy but hearing that he didnt even pick up a comic book prior to give me reason to think he's portrayal may not be the best for movie..whatever

I kind of agree with LEE on this. Although I think Hopkins will no doubt be good in the movie he is an overrated, one dimensional actor with an over inflated opinion of himself.

Really don't think him not reading the comics would be an issue - I doubt Odin reads comics:)

Actually I'm surprised that he didn't mention his role in "The Mask of Zorro". He was excellent as Don Diego De La Vega.

I was sceptical to start with but I do believe Hopkins will make a good Odin.

Can't wait for the movie!
