Anthony Hopkins On Odin's Costume, Kenneth Branagh And Messing With Chris Hemsworth!

"I’m glad I’m not young anymore because you see their insecurities and I always joke along with them," Hopkins laughed during a recent interview while promoting his new movie. "I say things like, ‘Is that the way you’re going to play it?’ Chris and I got to know each other but he was looking nervous and I said, ‘Oh, is that the way you’re going to play it?’ He said, ‘Yeah, is it okay?’ I said, ‘Well, it’s your career."

"They know that I’m joking but you have to have that relaxation to work with actors. If people are nervous around you it’s pointless. So I got that edge and say things."

As for the bulky costume he has to wear as the father of Thor, the Welsh actor said: "Well, it was hard work. It was carrying 15 pounds of armor on my back or more. 25 pounds I think, but Branagh’s a great director."

"I call him the general," he added while praising the director of the upcoming Marvel Studios movie. "He’s so self assured and so present and he knows exactly what he wants. I’d never worked with him before and I wouldn’t say I know him well but it was such a pleasant revelation working with him. I don't know what it is about him. He’s very self-assured and a great actor. He brings all his experience to the set. I think he’s terrific."

@anil Stellan Skarsgard is in the movie, he just isnt Odin.

@lee Somewhat a good point, but a big name, well liked actor that gets massive praise is actually perfect. Anthony Hopkins has a strong screen presence and always plays that wise, intellectual person, and he fits Odin well.

If they cast BRIAN BLESSED in the next Trek movie as Harry Mudd...EPIC! It's the role he was BORN to play, fer crying out loud! I mean, besides being BRIAN BLESSED every day of his life...LOL(Note: Only a larger-than-life character such as he deserves to be in ALL CAPS! I know the British contingent on the site would agree in that regard...)

I've been trying and trying to find a Mjolnir pendant but I want Marvels version not the mythical one. Does anyone know where to get one? Anything small enough to make into a pendant would work also.

If they kill Odin in the first film, I'm going to be a little upset. It just doesn't make sense. How is Thor going to find time to be on earth when he's going to have to be ruling Asgard? If they introduced Baldar it might work, but we haven't heard anything about him.

@weneedrevelation - Yeah, it LOOKED like it, but like Akercocke said, it could have been Odin sleep or some other kind of fake out. Then again, if the sequel sends them to Hela's realm to retrieve Odin's soul, I might be for it.

@MarsAmbassador - Did you just compare Anthony Hopkins to Britney Spear and Lindsy Lohan? GTFO. And by that I mean Go Tell Father Odin! He will not be pleased.

They couldnt have gone for a better actor and I for one think all those rumours about him and Hemsworth not getting on were BS! And if not, who cares as long as the movie is still great? Welsh actors are starting to take over CBM's...we already have an awesome Batman with Christian Bale and I hope Hopkins as Odin can make up for that sorry excuse of a Reed Richards from a few years ago! Wales has disowned that sorry excuse of an actor. :D

I am sooooooo disappointed Brian Blessed didn't get some part in this film!
TheMyth
TheMyth - 9/17/2010, 12:44 PM
lol he's not dead in the trailer folks. Every so often, in order to recuperate his powers, Odin must go into 'Odinsleep' to recharge is powers. During Odinslep, Odin is as vulnerable as any mortal and all of Asgard militarizes to ensure his protection as it's typically during Odinsleep that all sorts of baddies assail Asgard itself.

Brian Blessed would of been ridiculous and I wouldnt of been able to take him serious. It would be like Flash Gordon! Hopkins is perfect in every way and will OWN this role. I also think that Hemsworth will surprise people and be really good. This is his first real breakthrough role and he must of been VERY nervous but I feel that Hopkins and Branagh would help him to reach his A-Game. Most anticipated CBM of next year for me.

@weneedrevelation

You know he might not die, he could just go into an Odin coma... i mean, yeah Loki gets power but there's a number of ways that could happen. we have no idea if he dies or not.

And yeah... Anthony Hopkins is amazing!!!!
