Could the early Australian opening be the death of Thor?

Could the early Australian opening be the death of Thor?

Could Australia kill a god?

Now I am seriously doubtful that Marvel expect to make back their $150 millions dollar budget back from Australia alone. No I'm talking about the critics

By now a lot have people have already decided if they will/won't see this movie. So as of now MARVEL is pretty much guaranteed 'X' amount of dollars on opening weekend. But with THOR opening in Aus a full 2 weeks before the USA, I can only see problems arising. Now there are many movies that open in Australia before the hit the US, one example is Green Lantern. Green Lantern opens in Aus 1 day before the US, so even if the movie is a total disaster word wont spread fast enough to hurts its earnings significantly.

But THOR will have been going for 2 full weeks! The critics are going to go hell for leather, they will it all they've got. So if THOR is an absolute mess there is plenty of time for word round the internet to spread, reviews to be read, television reports ECT. With mass movie review sites like Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritc im sure how good/bad the film is, will spread like wildfire. This intern could kill any chance THOR had at being a box office smash. Now I'm not saying that there hasn't been bad movies that make loads of cash, but the fanboy community is very vocal and can change the tide for CBMs.

But things could go the other way and because of how well its received in Aus, it is HUGE in the US. This is only my personal opinion of course, to me THOR looks amazing and should do well at the box office.

Please leave your thoughts on the subject, in the comment section below and have a great day :)

I don't think there's much need for worry, although, in my opinion, Thor looks the worst out of all four of the the Superhero CBMs coming this year. I still don't think it looks bad, though, just not as good.

But everyone (i have not) who's read the script have said that it's not a mess. its a tight script from all the things i've heard and i'm under the impression that it's going to be of iron man 1 quality... if not... BIGGER! so, there's no reason to get worried.

I've read the script as well.
if critics don't like this movie is because they're idiots, plain and simple.

Lots of movies are released in other countries weeks before the US releases them. My job (one of the bigger theater chains) gets weekly updates about big summer movies and such, and let me just say Thor is one of the top anticipated movies of the summer. Its EXPECTED to bring in more than it's budget.

reviews from critics don't mean anything to a lot of people, transformers 2 made a ton of money despite the shit reviews and the movie even won 3 razzies thats bad it was yet was the 2nd highest grossing movie of 2009.

obviously that doesn't mean that it doesn't have chance of bombing but I highly doubt it.

Stay away from this site and Rotten tomatoes until MAY 6. Rotten Tomatoes is notorious for early reviews and dubious ratings. And while I know people shouldn't be influenced outside of their own experience, word of mouth can be distracting and/or influential in your enjoyment. Watch first, then check the stats.

I could not care less about critics' reviews. They could say it is the most pathetic attempt at a superhero movie ever, and i will still be in line April 21st.
I cant wait.
I'm also VERY much looking forward to Green Lantern after the 4 min preview this week!

With the size of the marketing machine this movie has I think it's pretty much in the bag that it will make it's money back AT LEAST. I honestly see this movie being the sleeper hit of the summer. Thor is a relatively unknown comicbook character (the mythological character not withstanding). It will open the summer movie season like Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and Star Trek did before it. That weekend is typically very good for films.

A CBM's success lies in it's ability to pull in the general public on top of the knowledgeable comic geeks. Iron Man did this because the story is original and unique to non-geeks. Same with THOR. A guy at work told me his wife wanted to see THOR. She has no clue about the comic. He himself likes Iron Man and also knows nothing of comics. When I tried to explain to him that THOR's hammer was in Iron Man 2, he couldn't grasp what I was trying to say lol. But I think THOR has that unique thing going for it like Iron Man, and that is; it's a superhero, but not your cliche style superhero.
