So, Thor: The Dark World just came out, so that’s what I’ll be reviewing. This is a SPOILER-FREE review, until the last bit, but I’ll let you know when there will spoilers.
To start off, I’m going to list the negatives. P.S, they’re in no particular order.
1. Malekith
I felt this was a missed oppurtunity for another great Marvel villain. I mean, think about it. Apart from Loki, they’ve been mostly forgettable. Well, except Iron Man 3, but I don’t think that was the good kind of “unforgettable” for most fans…
2. Ian
So, in this one, the comic relief gets… MORE comic relief? I’ll admit, some funny moments came from the duo, but he was ultimately dead weight.
3. Humor
This isn’t really a negative for me, but I thought I would list it here. While some places the comedy was welcomed, other times they should’ve cut it out. For instance, the subway scene in the middle of the final battle didn’t bother me watching it, but looking back, I can see how it’s unnecessary and it takes you out of the moment.
4. The Warriors… Two?
I really enjoy The Warriors Three and Sif on film, but I was a little dissapointed when they decided to leave Hogun behind thirteen minutes in.
Now, the positives.
1. LOKI!!!
Tom Hiddleston is truly Loki, and he gives his best performance yet. Without spoiling anything, he really does a great job. We see Loki at his highest, his lowest, and everywhere inbetween. He also brings a hilarious performance, with a large part of the humor coming from dialouge between him and Thor.
2. Thor and the rest of the cast
I realize that I stuck Thor with the rest of the cast, but that’s just to make room. Chris Hemsworth, (like Tom Hiddleston), really brings his best I this movie. You laugh with him, you cry with him, and you want to rally behind him. And there are solid performances across the board. Anothony Hopkins is at an all-time best as Odin, while Idris Elba is actually given more to as Heimdall. The Warriors Three are good this time around, although I didn’t like Zachary Levi as Fandral as much as I liked Joshua Dallas.
3. World-Building and Cinematography
Alan Taylor truly did a spectacular job bringing Asgard to feel like it’s lived in. So much so, that I feel like we didn’t really get to see as much of it as I would have hoped. Hopefully, we get to in future films. It is also the most visually stunning of the Marvel movies to date.
4. KURSE
Kurse is basically Malekith’s right-hand… thing, but I found him, (or IT), more appealing than Malekith. And the fight between him and Thor won’t dissapoint.
5. Action
All the action in this movie is amazing. That’s basically all I have to say about it.
SPOILER SECTION!!!!!!!
You are now entering the Spoiler Section, if you have not seen the movie, leave. So, the movie ends on a cliffhanger, with Loki taking the throne from Odin, and (confirmed by Kevin Feige and Anthony Hopkins) killing him. I think Sir Anthony Hopkins as Odin was one of the greatest casting choices of the MCU, so I’m a little sad to hear this. Also, I was dissapointed by the mid-credits scene. I didn’t like the feel or tone of it, and it was a little creepy. I’m a bit worried about Guardians of the Galaxy now, but I know Marvel will make it work. I liked the end-credits scene, though. And I absolutely loved the Captain America cameo. Funniest part of the movie.
So, overall I’m going to give “Thor: The Dark World” a 9.5/10. I think it’s tied with “The Avengers” for my favorite MCU movie. So, Phase Two is starting off with a bang, what did you think of the movie? Let me know in the comments, and, until, next time, I’m EpitomeofAwesome.
