Kenneth Branagh on directing Thor

After 2 months of speculation, Branagh confirmes he will indeed be directing the Thunder Gods first big screen outing...

At a "Valkyrie" press junket, an MTV news reporter brought up the question...

I am directing “Thor” or “The Mighty Thor’ as you might like to call it,” he said with a smile before clarifying what the title of the film will be. “I think it will be ‘Thor’.”

This is certainly a departure for Brannagh, who is best known for his Shakespearian adaptations and costume dramas. So what drew him to the project?

“To work on a story about one of the immortals, Gods, extraordinary beings, inter-dimensional creatures, there’s science fiction and science fact and fantasy all woven into one. It’s based on Norse legends which Marvel sort of raided in a brilliant way."

So what of the rumor that Kevin McKidd might be playing the titular hero?

“There’s been lots of talk [about casting] — I sound like a politician — but we are too early at this stage. We’re getting the story and the visual effects together and all of that is very exciting. Someone sensational is going to play the part but it is early days.

So there you have it Thor fans. Personally i think Branagh is a great choice for this movie. I mean Shakespear and costume drama isnt a million miles away from (at least part of) Thors story, and this man does these type of movies better than anyone.

Indeed, Forsooth! We need more information!

Like who's going to play Loki? Get somebody really good who can also be in the Avengers movie.

After all, he's the reason the Avengers got together, Loki NEEDS to be in the film.

This is the movie I'm most excited about( Right after Captain America). Thor was always one of my favorites, and I think that the public at large probably knows the least about him, so it'll be very interesting to see how the movie is accepted. Having attached a very accomplished and respected director will help.
