THOR 5 Rumor Suggests Valhalla, And Perhaps The Multiverse, Will Be Key Part Of Odinson's Next Movie

A new Thor 5 rumour suggests Valhalla will play a crucial role in the God of Thunder's next movie, but will the Multiverse - and the Thor Corps - end up factoring into this adventure? Read on for details!

Thor: Love and Thunder brought back Natalie Portman's Jane Foster and transformed her into the Mighty Thor. Unfortunately, it looked to be a one-and-done appearance for the character as Jane's cancer eventually overcame her and she entered Valhalla shortly after dying in battle.

The Comic Circus has taken a closer look at that scene in the wake of Loki and What If...? season 2's respective releases on Disney+ and point out what they believe to be the unwoven threads of the Multiverse in Valhalla's background.

While the site goes on to theorise that this realm of the dead likely exists outside of time and space similar to Black Panther's Ancestral Plane and the Duat and Field of Reeds from Moon Knight, they also share a potentially very exciting Thor 5 rumour.

"Our sources confirmed that part of the early ideas of the forthcoming Thor 5 film involve Valhalla as one of the upcoming locations," they explain, "exploring another aspect of Norse mythology."

The implications of this are likely to be significant. For example, if Thor dies in battle against Hercules, then it means he'll be reunited with many of the friends he's lost over the years...many of whom are likely to come in very handy when the Multiverse's Mightiest Heroes need to assemble against Kang.

"If Valhalla exists outside of the known Multiverse, could this imply that this Hall is open to ALL possible variants of Norse characters in the Marvel Multiverse, not just Earth-616?" the site wonders. "Could Valhalla be the home to multiple Thor variants or variants that possess the power of Thor?"

You can see where this is heading, right? Yes, this may indeed be how Marvel Studios goes about introducing the Thor Corps. We're not sure what their essentially being "dead" will mean, but if you're familiar with Thor's comic book adventures, then you'll know that death means little to Asgardians and that Valhalla is really just another realm, like Hel, they often travel to and from.

Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi has taken himself out of the running to helm Thor 5 but Rogue One: A Star Wars Story helmer Gareth Edwards has since become a rumoured frontrunner. Here's what he said about those claims last year:

"I saw those rumors, too. I saw it and I jokingly sent it to my girlfriend. I just texted her the link and said, ‘I didn’t want you to find out this way.' I’ve never heard anything about it. It’s totally...the internet is an incredible place. I love those movies. I love Marvel, a lot of my friends work on Marvel films. I love all the other movies and franchises, I go to see them. I have most of them on my DVD/Blu-ray shelf. But I really want to keep pursuing original sci-fi. Was that a very politically correct answer? I never say never. In the right circumstances, absolutely."

Thor 5 doesn't currently have a confirmed release date.

I'm practically alone in actually liking Love & Thunder.
But I'm ready for a proper ending, with a completely serious tone. A Loki (current status) treatment for Thor would be nice.
Common', "one last time".

@CharlesLeeRay - I liked it well enough. It was a bit too silly at times, but it's nowhere near as bad as some people on this site say.

@CharlesLeeRay - while I was disappointed with the movie, I believe that there was a good movie left in the cutting room. Delete 30 minutes of silly stuff, add 30 minutes of Jane, add 30 minutes of the bad guy - good movie!

@LeDiableBlanc - if you delete 30 minutes of silly stuff, you're still left with approximately 1h 20m of silly stuff. 30m of Jane would be just same shit we saw in Dumb and Thunder, but longer. 30 minutes of Glob The Kiddie Snatcher would be just as shit.

Bad movie.

@EskimoJ - I've heard it called the worst MCU film, to which I'd say I could probably think of at least 10 I liked less.

@SheepishOne - Certainly two Antman films and one Thor film I liked less, second Iron Man film down amongst those too. My literal least favourises are Antman and the Wasp with Dark world bumped just above it thanks mostly due to returning to it in Endgame and Loki season as prior to that was dead last, helped smooth it out a tad retrospectively.

Always hard to be certain of ranking too soon after a film drops when so many to compare and contract. Over time opinions can get more rosy for instance or conversely a film you find fun at the time can turn out to be one of the least rewatchable or most forgettable.

@Apophis71 - Your two least favorites are also my least favorites.

Iron Man 3 used to be my absolute least favorite, just for the way it made me feel in the theater. But I've come to like it over time.

I don't think there's anything Marvel can do that I'll like less than Ant-Man and The Wasp. It was such a downgrade to the first Ant-Man in almost every conceivable way.

Idk man.. I have lost all interest in Thor unless they brought in someone seriously inspired. Like I know this would never happen in a million years but if they got someone like Robert Eggers? Now you have my attention. The Northman is badass.

However, they will mostly likely bring in a yes man with little style or substance, so I don’t even care if this project actually goes into production.

@TheLobster - My thoughts exactly. I’d love to see someone like Eggers, Scott Cooper, John Hillcoat, Justin Kurzel, or Jeff Nichols take this in a new more character-driven type swansong for Hemsworth.

URCOMMENTSUCKS - 1/12/2024, 2:57 PM
@ELAYEM - Hemsworth never earned character-driven swan song. [frick] his mediocre ass for bringing in Waitti and letting him ruin this [frick]ing character. He wanted to play shitty funny Thor, now stick to your juice-induced guns, Hemsworth, and play him as a dimwitted cretin till they recast your ass.

@ELAYEM - fantastic picks all around! I could maybe see Cooper doing it since he could really use a boost but I don’t see Marvel having the vision to even reach out to him tbh lol

Love and Thunder was better the 2nd time. Just wish they had taken Jane’s story in a more serious tone. And ending her story like that wasn’t ideal IMO. It could have opened the door for some cool stories.

People saying we give Taika Waititi unnecessary shit for one bad movie are clueless. He is inconsistent and already admitted to taking jobs only for money. Need someone with a conscience at the helm.

More multiverse? Thor variants? C'mon, guys, read the room. And Valhalla is the realm of the Dead... can't SOMEONE stay dead?
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 1/12/2024, 3:17 PM
@rychlec - Technicaly Valhalla is the realm of HALF the WORTHY dead chosen by Odin (the other half of the worthy dead go to Fólkvangr after being chosen by Freyja) who are destined to return to do battle.

So even in original Norse mythology no, they were never destined to stay dead and were said to return to fight alongside Odin against the Jotnar.

Having it a place full of variants however from this article reads as bad fanfic based only on maybe they will have a scene where someone goes to Valhalla. The only bit that read as potential leak is THINKING of using it as a locatation, without that small bit of rumour saying anyone will return from it or that any will die in order to go there. Odin and Freya for instance would both be able to go there without dying in Norse mythology, in MCU lore I would assume both Thor and Valerie could drop into that location without dying if the story dictates (consulting with Odin for instance).

That all said, multiple times in the comics characters HAVE returned from Valhalla so obviously at times they will think about doing exactly that. Remains to be seen if they will go there with it and if so the how, why and the who of it all and ofcourse if that becomes part of a good or bad film/story would remain to be seen. In addition we were already half expecting dead and/or variant characters turning up in Secret Wars as is and the collapse of the multiverse is more Ragnarok than Ragnarok for a reason to bring fourth the army of the fallen to do battle during the end of days.

URCOMMENTSUCKS - 1/12/2024, 3:34 PM
@Apophis71 - 1. Valhalla was a hall that Odin used to gather 800 warriors to go and fight AT RAGNAROK, you forgot to mention that. I'm sorry to tell ya, but the MCU kinda shat all over Ragnarok, making it RagnaJOKE instead. So that's off the table. 2. Oh, great... So the MCU had to make a shitty version of Ragnarok because ten years later they would make a completely irrelevant movie which figuratively represents Ragnarok. Thanks for reminding us why the MCU sucks ass. 3. The MCU, especially its Thor movies post-Branagh, don't follow the comics. So it's better yet to not use "welp, in the comics" as an excuse.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 1/12/2024, 3:46 PM
@URCOMMENTSUCKS - I know, was simply referencing the lore it is all based on of which I am very well versed, in an entirely unbiased and free from opinions of MCU products way...

...but avoided in the first instance using the term Ragnarok to avoid conflating with the film that butchered that part of mythology instead only refencing who they would battle.

The key points however remain valid regardless opinions of prior or future films.

@rychlec - "More multiverse? Thor variants? C'mon, guys, read the room."

Which room, the message boards where we all like to be cool and distant regarding the multiverse or the packed cinema houses every time a big multiverse film comes out like NWH or EEAAO or even MoM? Or even Endgame technically.

Thor vs. (a recast) Hercules. And maybe Thor can return to a mostly decimated Asgard and start to return it to it's former glory.
AvalonX
AvalonX - 1/12/2024, 2:45 PM
I think Thor can be what the Captain America movies were if done right. Like Avengers 1.5 or 2.5. They arent doing much with Hulk so hes the only OG Avenger in his prime left really. They need to return the way Thor was written in Infinity War. He has his quips but hes a powerhouse. Give him a big threat to deal with and give him a decent character arc.

That said, its kind of crazy they wiped out most of his supporting characters, especially the Asgard based ones which really doesn't work. The New Asgard idea is poorly executed so I am in favor of some sort of retcon to bring back Asgard along with some of this supporting characters. Really, thats when a retcon works when you made a narrative mistake. That hurt LaT because all he had was Tessa, Korg, and Portman to play off of. Korg is a silly character good for a couple of minutes and the MCU version of Valkeryie is honestly ridiculous. I dont mean its woke, I mean she has nothing to work with. If they want to get that franchise on track, a retcon, even if they have to use some multiverse, secret wars way to bring it back is fine with me.

URCOMMENTSUCKS - 1/12/2024, 2:54 PM
@AvalonX - Korg was always a shitty character. So is Valkyrie. Woke and otherwise. Why the [frick] is she pardoned for being a slave-trading [foo foo]?

This is what Thor 4 should have been about, so actually connected to Loki and Secret Wars and Kang to some degree, but Marvel learned the hard way that you have to have a cohesive story or people aren’t going to show up for your D tier films like they did in the Infinity Saga.
URCOMMENTSUCKS
URCOMMENTSUCKS - 1/12/2024, 2:59 PM
@HulkisHoly - If this is what Thor 4 was about, it would be an even shittier movie, because if Waitit couldn't make an even slightly watchable movie when adapting two of the most revered Thor runs in modern history, how the [frick] would he do when adapting a concept, not even an actual story from the comics?

HulkisHoly - 1/13/2024, 9:44 AM
@URCOMMENTSUCKS -

My comment was not really regarding who directed the movie. I don’t think it should have been Taika anyway but if he did still direct that plot instead, at least he wouldn’t be doing a terrible adaptation of an actual comic run 🤷‍♂️
URCOMMENTSUCKS
URCOMMENTSUCKS - 1/12/2024, 2:53 PM
Sounds like ass. I suppose MCU hates to learn from its mistakes. I mean, it was apparent since Iron Man 2-3 that they can't learn from mistakes and love to step on the same rake, but this time there was at least an objective reason for them to reconsider their shitty approach, given how badmouthed their movies have gotten + so many box office flops.

The MCU yet again thinks of stupid plot first, character second. We want character-focused basic story about Thor that brings his character back to having dignity, possibly a romance story with Sif, not Dumb and Thunder all over again.
