Chris Hemsworth & Taika Waititi Have Shared Ideas for THOR 4

Chris Hemsworth and Taika Waititi formed quite the close bond during THOR: RAGNAROK, so it should come as no surprise that the two have begun sharing ideas for a possible THOR 4.

Thor: Ragnarok was well received by both critics and  audiences, and with Taika Waititi behind the helm he breathed new film into the Thor franchise, taking the character into a bold and exciting new direction that felt to many as a soft reboot for our Asgardian hero. While we still do not know how Thor will fare against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel, and Kevin Feige has yet to announce any Phase 4 MCU movies besides Spiderman's sequel and Guardians 3, Taika and Chris Hemsworth have already begun to brainstorm ideas for a possible Thor 4

While spending New Year's Eve together in Australia, the two began to throw around many possible story ideas for Thor in a potential sequel to Ragnarok. Chris Hemsworth has already made it clear that working with Taika on the Ragnarok set was one of the most enjoyable experiences he's ever had making a film and he would love the opportunity to work with Taika again. With his character and the Asgardian franchise reenergized, Hemsworth has also expressed his desire to possibly renew his contract with Marvel to continue playing Thor. Hemsworth had this to say about his brainstorming with Taika:

  • "We gave cheers to Thor 3. But it also was like what could we do with four? We could do this and this. We were throwing ideas around. But also, just to work together again. That was one of the most enjoyable creative partnerships I've ever had."

Recently, Taika Waititi stated that he would very much be interested in directing a sequel to Ragnarok, as he feels like the franchise now has the ability to properly add another chapter for the character since it has been reenergized. And for Taika, a fourth Thor film would feel more like a second Ragnarok film.

  • "For sure I'd do another one because it wouldn't even feel like doing a fourth Thor film, it would just feel like doing the second Ragnarok film. Cuz it does feel like in a way, yeah there's been this reinvention in an exciting way... So it's exciting cuz it feel like, if Chris were to do this again it wouldn't feel like 'Oh it's the eighth time I've done Thor,' no it will feel like the second or third time I've done this character. Same with Mark [Ruffalo]."

While we will have to wait until Avengers 4 to see Thor's fate, this news is certainly a good indication that he may survive the war against Thanos. Hemsworth recently finished filming for Avengers 4 and added that a sequel to Ragnarok would depend on how the fourth Avengers film wraps up and edits the stories for its various characters, noting that Thor 4 would be a conversation for the future if it were to even happen at all.

Be sure to share your thoughts below about this news and whether you would be excited for a fourth Thor film with Taika Waititi returning to direct.

Yes please, I would also love to see taiki take over other marvel franchises. Imagine guardians + hulk and Thor directed by him!

@HeavyMetal4Life - 100% I remember everyone complaining he would make a comedy movie that’s disregarded the history of the MCU, not the case, in taiki we trust!

I reckon a full on team-up movie with Thor and the Guardians would be awesome. Go fully Kirby style Marvel Cosmic Universe outrageous with it!

All I’m asking for:

@HankPymp - I really want that story adapted too, but I dont think Taika is the right director it.
I feel like The God Butcher is too dark for Taika’s sensibilities, he’s more into the wacky Thor of the 60s or 80s

@ELAYEM - Yeah I agree now that I think about it. The God Butcher story is a story that needs to leave the audience in tears. I absolutely loved Ragnarok, it's in my top 3 of 2017.
Though, Thor God Of Thunder is a straight Magnum Opus from start to finish, and tonally wouldn't fit Waiti's style I think. That is a very VERY dark story.
The novelty of seeing Hemsworth, one actor playing young Thor, and an older actor playing Odinforce Thor really peaks my interest though.

@HankPymp - Yeah it’s a tricky situation because like you said The God Butcher is Thor’s magnum opus in a way and if Thor 4 is Thor’s last film it should be adapted, but Taika is responsible for Thor’s most successful film both financially and critically and he wants to come back, but he doesnt fit the story at all.

Because of that, as great as Taika is, I wish they would get someone else like Guillermo Del Toro, Denis Villeneuve, John Hillcoat, or James Mangold.

@ELAYEM - Dude, could you imagine just on a visual level, the story Del Toro could tell if given the keys to that kingdom?
The actual look of the God Butcher would be insane. The creature designs would be legit. Take my money, take my house, I’ll sign up for that any day.
Not just Hellboy, or Pan’s Labyrinth.
But after seeing The Shape Of Water, I’d trust that man with ANYTHING.

@HankPymp - Right!? That would be a beautiful, fantastic movie experience.
I’d also love to see Del Toro’s Aquaman

I wonder what Thor 4 would be about. I doubt we'd see Balder, Tyr, Mangog, Warriors Three, or Jormungand. Maybe it can be about Thor searching for Sif and he comes across BRB.

Please start off with Guardians of the Galaxy, Kree, Skrulls leads to Silver Surfer, hint at Fantastic Four and Galactus at the End. That would be awesome.
