THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER - Take A Hi-Res Look At Natalie Portman's Mighty Thor (And The Reformed Mjolnir)

A closer look at the Mighty Thor (Natalie Portman) has been revealed following the recent release of new merchandise for Thor: Love and Thunder, and there's a lot about this design that should please fans.

Earlier this week, Marvel Studios officially unveiled the first merchandise for Thor: Love and Thunder. Seeing as there have been several pieces of leaked promo art, nothing there was particularly revealing, though it has seemingly been confirmed that Gorr the God Butcher will wield his Necrosword from the comic books (which we're assuming will be tied to Hela rather than Venom in the MCU).

For many fans, a closer look at Natalie Portman's Mighty Thor was most welcomed, and a higher resolution version of that promo art has now started circulating online.

A closer look at the costume confirms we're definitely getting a comic-accurate take on this fan-favourite character in Thor: Love and Thunder, though it's Mjolnir that's been getting the most attention. As suspected after seeing those early set photos, something happens that leads to the remains of the God of Thunder's hammer being reformed and later wielded in battle by this new Thor.

Thor: Ragnarok established that Mjolnir isn't necessarily what grants Thor his powers, so we're curious what leads to Jane being transformed from a mild-mannered scientist to an Asgardian superhero!

Directed by Taika Waititi, the movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Russell Crowe, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, and Sean Gunn among others.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to be released in theaters on July 8.

Still say she should be her own hero. At least with miles his origin is tied to a universe where Peter died and someone needed to take the role of Spiderman (also that Spiderman is an actual title Peter assumed and not his actual name).

@Origame - it happened in comics Blane books for this one

@dragon316 - I don't care. My point is it shouldn't be a thing in the comics either.

The comics aren't some immutable thing where it must be good if it's in there. And all my points were issues in the comics too.

Lmao you truly are the biggest hypocrite around here. I can't believe these words just came straight out of your mouth.

@CARNAVALcarnage - ...where's the hypocrisy? Never have I once said comic accuracy is the most important thing.

My point has always been that there should be a happy middle ground between the keeping true to the basics of the story and changing to make it your own unique version. You want to change it to make it stand on its own, but too much and the question is why bother making an adaptation of the comics instead of its own thing.

In this case, you can adapt Jane without making her Thor (something that's been the case for most of her existence). But if you're adapting this story, you can fix the problems that are here. Just giving her a different superhero name other than Thor doesn't change the fundamentals of her still being worthy, or the powers she has.

@Origame - welcome to the world of comics today. Mantle swap, Gender swap, race swap, event rehash rinse and repeat. Its depressing, in the past 5-6 years I've only read 1 thing from the big 2 that was special and made me excited to read more...House of X/Powers of X.

@HydraB0b - in fairness, I heard some good things from King spawn. Other than that the whole industry is basically done for.

Curious. In Endgame, Thor went back in time with Rocket and then brought that (perfect condition) Mjolnir back with him. Does this mean there's now 2 Mjolnirs?

@elgaz - cap returned it when he returned the stones.

@elgaz - Cap returned it at the end.
Doesnt change the fact he returned it to a different timeline, the original timeline is [frick]ed up.
Spidey91
Spidey91 - 2/23/2022, 8:22 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - why? per the movie's logic, returning it right after it was taken keeps the timeline intact, it's what the Ancient One explains to Banner using the time stone as an example.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 2/23/2022, 8:27 AM
@Spidey91 - The moment he took the Mjolnir, he created a different timeline, and "our" heroes cant return to that timeline, when Cap went back in time, he created a third timeline.

The Ancient One also explains that an universe cant existe without one infinity stone..."our" universe was doing just fine for the last 5 years without a single infinity stone.
Spidey91
Spidey91 - 2/23/2022, 8:36 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - it's not that the universe can't exist without the stones, it very clearly can, she meant that something bad could happen if the time stone isn't there to help keep the world safe, she's the guardian of the stone at that point after all.

and I don't think Cap created a third timeline, he had the coordinates for the time and place where to drop Mjolnir, if everything went well there shouldn't have been any major changes to the timeline. in the Loki series they establish that the formation of a new timeline isn't immediate and that you can mess with it a bit within a certain treshold before it results in a new branch.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 2/23/2022, 8:45 AM
@Spidey91 - Loki escapes with the Teseract in the second timeline in 2012, however, Loki is still in prison when they go back to 2013, because they cant travel to different timelines other than their own.
If anything, when Cap went back to 2013, he went back to HIS 2013, which might created a third timeline with two Mjolnirs.

@TheHumanSpider2 - Or they can't go back because the TVA pruned the timeline right after they caught Variant Loki in Mongolia.
Fogs
Fogs - 2/23/2022, 1:43 PM
@TheHumanSpider2 - If I understood what you wrote you believe they're always travelling in their own timeline?

If so, it's wrong. Bruce states this is not Back to the Future. Each time travel goes to a different universe / timeline. They needed the "time GPS" only to be able to return to their own timeline once the heist was done.

If they did differently and couldn't get off their own timeline they would be experiencing a back to the future situation, which is precisely what the film time-travel rules weren't leading to.

All caps needed in the end was to use the same GPS to go to the same timelines they previously visited, as @Spidey91 stated.

@MrMediocre - That's really something yet to be explained, where caps delivered the space stone to. That and how Caps was able to return to his own timeline as an old man without re-appearing on the platform.

BTW thinking about it Bruce could just reproduce the "time travelling through the person and not the opposite" bug in old Caps to restore his youth ;)

@TheHumanSpider2 - that gave Steve the powers of Thor. Fun fact, Thor already has the power of Thor

@Crtdacct2say - Pretty much.
Odin himself in Ragnarok mentions the hammer helps Thor focus his natural power, but clearly, the hammer (or at least the spell) grants a worthy mortal "the power of Thor".

Question: Is she going to have more screen time wearing the helmet than Hemsworth? I'm not complaining about his lack of helmet time, just genuinely curious.

When Eric Masterson got powers like Thor he became Thunderstrike.
When Beta Ray Bill got the powers of Thor he stayed Beta Ray Bill so how come when she gets the powers she takes Thors birth name?

...You know, with Waititi's affection for 80's cheese, I'm not sure I'd hate some Huey Lewis in the soundtrack. Maybe just as one of the filler songs in the end credits.

I really hope they keep the cancer arc. It's rather pivotal.
