Newly revealed Thor: Love and Thunder concept art has shown Natalie Portman's Mighty Thor squaring off with Fing Fang Foom, Shuma-Gorath...and Galactus! How close did they come to making it into the movie?

Thor: Love and Thunder ranks among Marvel Studios' most poorly reviewed movies, and while it isn't Rotten, it sits around the same level as Thor: The Dark World and The Incredible Hulk

The movie was a disappointment, especially after Thor: Ragnarok, with a rushed story and some questionable creative decisions. Would these cameos have made a difference, though?

In some newly released concept art by Anthony Lee Winn, we learn that Natalie Portman's Jane Foster/The Mighty Thor was set to cross paths with villains like Fing Fang Foom, Shuma-Gorath, and Galactus! We're assuming this was meant to be a montage showing her adventures while Thor was off with the Guardians of the Galaxy, and it's a cool concept.

While Winn hasn't shed any light on how early into development these pieces were created, we're guessing it was long before the story took shape.

Remember, Deadpool and Proxima Midnight were included in concept art for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' cage fights, so it's likely the artist was having fun and throwing some ideas out there. Galactus was, however, considered for that meeting between the MCU's Gods, so it's entirely possible Thor: Love and Thunder nearly marked his debut in this world.

We're sure Marvel Studios is saving Galactus for bigger and better things, with the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot a strong possibility. We know Kevin Feige is keen to use the villain, though whether he'll be a foe to Marvel's First Family or the MCU as a whole obviously remains to be seen (it would be no bad thing for Galactus to be akin to Thanos and Kang).

Thank God they didn't go for it. Galactus has already survived one mediocre/bad movie. He deserves better than that.

@DrReedRichards - I honestly don't hate that movie. It's aged really well. The one bad thing in the whole film was that they turned Galactus into a dust cloud.

And if you were to go way back in time to this website in 2006/7, you'd see there was an article leaking concept art for that movie too and it looked MAGNIFICENT!

Such a shame they didn't have the balls to follow through. Could've been a different story in terms of audience reaction.

@ObserverIO -

I don't particularly "hate" it either, but if we're being honest, any enjoyment I might get from it is more akin to the guilty pleasure kind, rather than thinking of it as unironically good.

I will say, though, that the first one from 2005 has aged a lot better. In hindsight, after getting to experience the awfulness of 2015 (f#ck you, Josh Trank), I've grown to tolerate its Doom a lot more, plus they nailed the team's family dynamic to a T'.

@dragon316 - I concur.
I just recently got around to watching "Doctor Strange" 2, where he barely effects the plot , and it was truly far worse of a jumbled idiotic mess than I thought it could possibly even be.

Truly a disaster from a storytelling and character development level. Scarlett Witch is handled horrendously and comes off as a total moronic selfish asshole. Strange is now an oaf and has little bearing on the story that supposedly is about him. America is a generic, bland, personalityless character who is only a cheap plot device.

MOM was really just a mishmash of digital meandering slop imo and probably THE worse MCU movie I've seen. I honestly feel that the MCU is not gonna ever be able to get its' mojo back if they continue on this path.

With L & T all would have worked better had they listened a bit more to Jason Aaron and a little less to Taika. Definitely not the place to introduce Galactus on the John or whatever Taika would have wanted.

@Simonsonrules - Aaron knows the character and did great things with him. L&T was good for what it was, but a little more serious tone and higher stakes would have helped. Especially with such an important villain as Gorr.

Could you imagine if THIS was the film to introduce galactus?

Imagine a film as ballsy as all this, but with a script that made it work and a filmmaker that is confident enough to own it and doesn't hide behind weak-ass 'comedy'.

Probably the only Marvel film that I'll never watch. People like to blame Taika for the tone but I think Hemsworth is just as bad. Dude just decided to play himself instead of Thor and everyone was fine with it.

I wish we had seen Branagh's version of Kyle and Yost's Ragnarok screenplay. That would have been epic.

@TheManWithoutFear - REALLY weird how people hate on Taika for this movie after he delivered everything people praised about the last one...

With the way that Waititi turned Eternity into a cardboard cutout who grants wishes, I'm glad he didn't get a chance to turn Galactus into a joke as well.

The Mighty Thor was a good character and they killed her off too soon. Having two Thors fighting together was awesome I thought.

such a [frick]ing bad movie. it’s time to just retire hemsworth’s take on the character and just reboot in a couple of years

Thank God they didn't put our first real proper look at Galactus in this monstrosity of a movie ! Thor L&T was painful to watch !

DEFINITELY for the best! 😳 Waititi may have shown Galactus wearing a bathrobe or something because Waititi would have found it funny. 🙄
