King Valkyrie is one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's only openly gay superheroes, and while Thor: Love and Thunder won't be where we meet her Queen, fans remain hopeful that a love interest will eventually be introduced. The top pick for that role is Brie Larson's Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, a hero many are convinced was once romantically involved with Maria Rambeau.
While we wait and see what Carol's sexual orientation actually is (The Marvels may clear things up), Tessa Thompson has now made it clear that she would be more than open to exploring a relationship between Valkyrie and the MCU's most powerful Avenger.
Talking to Pinkvilla, the Thor: Love and Thunder star said, "I, you know, the heart wants what it wants. I don't...I can't speak yet to Val. She hasn't had a ton of time to focus too squarely on her love life since she's been besought with a lot of kingly duties."
"But there are a lot of amazing men, women, other wordly creatures inside of the MCU and certainly in the canon of characters that could enter the MCU. So, I think there's so many fish in the sea. She's single. She's ready to mingle. And I love, both in the comics, Carol and I...Brie Larson is a good friend of mine and I love spending time with her."
"So, I wouldn't be mad at it, for sure," Thompson concluded.
With Captain Marvel clearly set to be a major player in the MCU moving forward, it would be a bold move for Marvel Studios to have two of its most prolific female characters embark on a romantic relationship. Unfortunately, it may also be one that's a step too far for Disney considering the studio only just included a lesbian kiss in Lightyear after originally cutting it.
As always, we'll have to wait and see what happens. Marvel Studios has been making great strides in embracing diversity, so we're optimistic that will continue moving forward.
