Stellan Skarsgård Talks Potential 'Erik Selvig' Return In THOR: RAGNAROK

Before weighing in on his Avengers: Age of Ultron norn cave scene being cut short, actor Stellan Skarsgård talks about Erik Selvig being pivotal to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and whether or not he’ll appear in the next Thor movie. Check it out after the jump!

Even when the God of Thunder was fighting alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor Odinson has always received aid from Stellan Skarsgård’s scientist Erik Selvig in some capacity. And given the Swedish actor has appeared in all of the Thor and Avengers movies so far, Digital Spy recently asked Skarsgård whether or not he’ll reprise the supporting role in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok.

“They have an option on me,” said Stellan Skarsgård of his multi-picture deal with Marvel Studios. “I don't know what decisions they'll make, but they have an option on me for the next Thor movie.” When asked what it’s like being a part of an ever-growing cinematic universe, the actor recalled a scene he shot for Thor: The Dark World. “When you're standing naked at Stonehenge, you don't think of the enormousness of the universe you're in,” he said. “You think of the cold and how small your dick will be, if Disney is allowed to show it! But I worked with very good directors and I've had a lot of fun doing it Of course, doing Selvig is not as challenging as it is to do [my new movie] River, but it doesn't mean it's boring. I'm having a lot of fun [playing Selvig].”

About his and Chris Hemsworth’s cave scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron and how most of it had ended up on the cutting room floor, Stellan Skarsgård revealed, “I wasn't supposed to be in [the movie] in the first place.” He continued, “Then they called me and they'd written a couple of scenes.  I went and did them and you didn’t know if they were going to end up in the film or not. I want them to make as good a film as possible. I don't care if I'm in it or not." What do you think?

So far, the inclusion of Mark Ruffalo’s Incredible Hulk is the only indication that Thor: Ragnarok will once again visit Midgard, or earth, at some point in the movie. Therefore, don’t be too surprised if Erik Selvig and Thor’s other earthbound allies
Jane Foster, Darcy Lewis, etcare announced soon. Hopefully, the Marvel threequel will spend more precious screen time on places we haven’t seen.

NO! I liked his character in the first Thor, but he became a joke in The Dark World. Please, no more midgard and more Asgard!

We should only see Earth through portals or flashbacks, no actual scenes should be wasted on earth and their cast. The Asgardians have been playing second fiddle too long and it's for a cast of annoying scientists!

No, a great actor but his character has to go away and take Darcy with him.

The real question is, could there be TWO Skarsgards in Thor: Ragnarok???

Alexander Skarsgard was considered for the role of Thor and I have to believe he's top candidate for the role of Adam Warlock.

Most folks believe Adam Warlock will be part of the Infinity War films. It's possible Warlock could make his MCU debut before the Infinity War, so we could see him in GotG 2 and/or Ragnarok.

I really doubt Marvel will bring him back, he was a welcome addition in Thor and it was cool that Whedon tied him into Avengers in a natural way, but after the sort of reaction to the human characters in Thor 2 I think both Marvel and the fans are done with them. Plus Taika is a great director, and great at comedy, I doubt he would waste his energy on these characters, when his creativity would flow much better with Hulk and Thor paired up.

Him and Darcy can [frick] off.

Actually Jane Foster can [frick] off too.

To complete the arc started in the first THOR, they kind of have to include Jane, Darcy, and Eric. I would not be surprised if all three end up on a realm-hopping adventure. And I bet $5 that at least one of them remains on Asgard for good.

Highflyer - Agreed, Marvel Studios doesn't even know what they're doing with those characters. Those characters wasted too many precious screen time, they were decent in the first Thor but now they're just a waste of time.

Honestly, I think he should sit this one out. There are other characters more deserving of screen time this time around.

No Selvig. No Darcy. And mother f cker! People should finally give up on trying to use Natalie Portman in a romance that requires the ability to create onscreen chemistry! She has proven in the prequels and in Thor that she DOES NOT HAVE the ability to create chemistry with male actors. Thor 2 was like Attack Of The Clones 2. The return of Anakin loves Padme.

The scientist trio are all going to be back. Intern, too. No use hoping they won't be.

At least there's Hulk.

Let Banner be the only human in the movie.

Or have human characters in the movie that don't make me want to sterilize the human race.

I actually think Selvig is the most tolerable of the human characters. His Stonehenge streaking aside, I've always found him very dignified and interesting.

To be completely frank, I don't really want any of the supporting Earth characters from the previous movies in this.

Wasn't the whole point of introducing Dr. Banner to beef up the Midgard cast? Gotta have 'em all back, Jane, Selvig, D'arcy, D'arcy's assistant. I wanna see them again.
