THOR: RAGNAROK's Cate Blanchett Wants To See More Female Villains In The MCU
Hela actress Cate Blanchett reveals that she destroys Mjolnir in the film's first few minutes and states that she's hoping to start a trend with more female villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
With Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok, the studio is finally set to debut a main villain that's played by a woman which is something Cate Blanchett hopes to see more of going forward in the MCU. "I didn't realize until Victoria [Alonso] told me that I was inhabiting the first female Marvel villain onscreen," the actress said. "I thought, 'Surely not… well, no actually that's true.' There's been many, many, many [female villains] in the comic books, but they've been a little tardy in bringing them to the screen, so hopefully there will be a lot more villainesses."
Blanchett also told E! News that Hela will destroy Thor's Mjolnir in the film's "first few minutes". That's something many have already surmised given director Taika Waititi's comments that the film is currently clocking in at 1hr and 40 minutes- making it the shortest MCU film to date.
Thor: Ragnarok arrives in theaters on November 3, 2017.
