Director Taika Waititi Elaborates On The Most "Taika-Esque" Element Of THOR: RAGNAROK; Confirms Cameo

Acclaimed director Taika Waititi has been known to bring a certain unique flavor to each of his films and it sounds like Thor: Ragnarok is no different! Plus, he confirms his cameo and teases Sam Neill!

Having wrapped in late October of last year, director Taika Waititi is currently in the midst of the lengthy post-production phase for Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok, which means a trailer is probably still a few months out, likely set to arrive mid-to-late April with James Gunn's highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2.

At a recent Rooftop Films gala (where he was being honored), Waititi, who is best known for his acclaimed work on smaller indie films like What We Do In The Shadows and Hunt For The Wilderpeople, sat down with the A.V. Club and shed some light on how he's bringing his unique and brilliant voice to Thor's third solo outing. When asked what he thought the "most Taika element" of the film was, he replied: "I think the overall sense that I’m trying to give to the audience and what I want the audience to leave the cinema carrying with them is a sense of joy really.

He further elaborated on his comments by comparing his film to the 2016 Russo Brothers-directed blockbuster Captain America: Civil War and took a moment to express his appreciation for Marvel's unbelievable range of amazing characters: “Sometimes I would stop and think, I’m doing a movie that’s got Thor and Doctor Strange and The Incredible Hulk and Loki and every character is so strange and different... Civil War it’s just humans, humans with human problems. Ours is creatures and beings and all these sorts of really different characters. Again displaying human problems, but in outer space or in other worlds.

On another note, Waititi confirmed that he will indeed make a cameo in Ragnarok, which shouldn't come as a huge surprise considering he's made some sort of appearance in each of his previous films, but wouldn't divulge much else: ”It’s not like a thing that I’ve ever planned, but now I’m in all of my movies in a small role or a larger role... I’ll probably just keep doing that. It’s like a dumb thing I do now.” He also later spent a quick second teasing the film's other major cameo, which will feature 3x Golden Globe-nominee Sam Neill (Jurassic Park), who confirmed his involvement to the press last September: “He blabbed on the internet, didn’t he?... I don’t want to say too much about it, because it’s a really cool little thing that he’s doing.

So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!
