Why Kat Dennings could be Hela in Thor

Why Kat Dennings could be Hela in Thor

According to all sources, Kat Dennings is playing "Darcy"... but what does that mean?

As a HUGE Thor fan and an even BIGGER Hela fan, I really hope that the goddess of death is in the upcoming Thor movie. For those of you unfamiliar with Hela, she was born in Jotunheim, the land of the giants. According to legend she was the child of the trickster Loki and the giantess Angrboda. When she came of age, Odin appointed her as the Goddess of Death, giving her rulership over the dead in the realms of Hel and Niffleheim.

From what we've seen and heard so far, Loki will be trying to destroy Thor in the film by, among other things, sending the Destroyer to earth to do battle with the god of thunder. But I was also thinking that Loki sent his daughter to keep an eye on Thor while he was earthbound. Not just as a babysitter, but also, if need be, use her means to kill Thor and take him back to Hel with her. Just one of Loki's chess pieces in the big game.

Now everything online has Kat listed as Darcy, a co-worker of Jane Foster. But is she really Hela in disguise? This is something I have speculated about for a long time in many threads here at CBM. In an early interview with Collider, Kat remained very secretive as to the scope of her role as Darcy.

Collider: So, I mean I know filming [on Thor] has started but have you shot your scenes yet or is that still coming up?

DENNINGS: No. All my stuff is towards the end, yeah, towards the end of the shoot.

Collider: Okay.

DENNINGS: Yeah no, I just can’t wait. I had a bunch of fittings and a bunch of hair and makeup tests and I was so excited. I would wake up like an hour or two early.

Collider: Okay. I believe I read, and correct me if I’m wrong, that your character is a friend of Natalie Portman’s character?

DENNINGS: Yeah. Yeah. I don’t know how much I can say.

Collider: Okay. Are you actually a god in the film?

DENNINGS: I can’t tell you…

Collider: Can’t tell me? Can’t tell me anything? Okay.

DENNINGS: No, I can’t tell you.

So that's why I'm thinking she could be Hela. Asked if she plays a god, she replies with "I can't tell you." Seems she could say no, especially if she is listed simply as a co-worker of Jane Foster, unless she ISN'T simply a co-worker. Darcy is a totally made up character for the film, so the possibilities are endless! And she also says that she "bunch of fittings and a bunch of hair and makeup tests." For a simple co-worker? I doubt it.

All signs point to something BIGGER for Kat in Thor.

Plus, she looks PERFECT as Hela! Don't ya think??

I didnt know of the fittings, hair, makeup, yeah for a simple Earth person that wouldnt make sense. And since I dont remember Darcy from the comics, and she has that LOOK of Hela, and she played dodgeball on the God question, seems to me she is. I think Marvel is making this a twist in the film to give that shock value to the audience.

I speculated this before as well. Actually, when she was first added to the cast, I assumed she would play Hela. Strong possibility.

She was pretty dodgy about the question. And if she is playing a simple human character then why would she need so much make-up and costume fittings? Good work Hela! Heres hoping she actually is Hela.

i like her as an actor. very natural and very talented. she could add so much more weight to the film if she was playing something other than a friend of Portman's. plus, i would LOVE to see her in a villain role!!!

ALSO LOTS OF CHARACTERS CAST STILL SECRET..LIKE ENCHANTRESS FOR FEMALES...AND IS BALDER CAST YET?
HelaGood
HelaGood - 6/9/2010, 1:58 PM
@ROBBEATZZZ so far, Colm Feore has been cast in an unknown role though it is thought to be a villain. Feore stated that it took five hours for his makeup to be applied. Stellan Skarsgård has also been cast in an unspecified role. Adriana Barraza has been cast in an unknown role though is said to be a human. Actors Joseph Gatt, Joshua Cox, and Troy Brenna have also been cast in unspecified roles. Gatt revealed in an interview with Screen Rant that he will be playing a villain stating; "Marvel are really into secrecy and protecting their scripts and characters, so there’s not much I can say except that I’m playing a bad guy with a lot of action".

im thinking Gatt may have done the mo-cap for the Destroyer, or is in the suit itself. But since Feore is a villain, either Cox or Skarsgard could be Balder, if he is in the film.

as far as the Enchantress goes... i think they need to save her for later. she will make a bigger impact if kept for a future film.

From what I heard I didnt see Enchantress' name mentioned but I did see Valkyries, and I do know Balder is in it.

Yeah I dont think Kat would play dodgeball about if she was playing a God/Goddess in the film if she was playing a simple human character.

She did say on her twitter when she was cast something of this nature (I dont have the exact tweet) she said "Hell is going to burn" and I think it was posted the day she WAS cast in Thor, another good sign.

@clay i just found MarvelFreshman's article where he posted her tweet after she was cast and here it is:

"Hell is gonna be awesome"

MF was also thinking the same thing i am about her playing Hela.

@BlackAirsAki87 i loved the Hulk vs. Thor appearance of Hela as well! she was much more badass than Loki! (ps - if you watch it again, watch the Hulk vs. Wolverine too... the same woman does Hela's and Lady Deathstrike's voices.)

For the record, the cast of Thor did watch the Hulk Vs. Thor DVD, I mentioned in a Tweet to Kylie (Sifs Stuntwoman) and said "I guess I will have to watch Hulk Vs. Thor to get my Asgard fix" She replied back that the cast and crew watched that film on set when they werent filming one time

@hela....oh yeah your right...thats awesome...they did make her much bigger than Loki..just to show that she is indeed half giant. I love how she just sat there and was eating something...just chilling and watching souls being tortured....I can't believe she can't see thro her own fathers deceptions. I bet we shall see her in the last Kieron Arc for Thor. If you read Siege: Loki she gains some hell property from Mephisto...which was VERY SURREAL!!!!

HelaGood - 6/9/2010, 4:11 PM
@BlackAirsAki87 i loved that bit with mephisto!

and yeah youre right. she was depicted so well in the film... very sexy, very powerful, and so not moved. i think she does see through loki's plans but doesnt care cuz she can spank her dad anytime, anyplace.

@clay thats awesome that they watched it. i assume they did because most of the major characters had such a large presence in it... thor, odin, the warriors three, sif, loki... i thought it did a fantastic job of portraying those characters in cartoon form. ESPECIALLY hela.
