Earlier this summer, we got confirmation that a Thunderbolts movie is in development at Marvel Studios with Jake Schreier at the helm, and Marvel Comics has now announced that the first issue of a new comic series from Jim Zub and Sean Izaakse is set to hit shelves this Wednesday.

This latest incarnation of the team will consist of Hawkeye, Spectrum, America Chavez, Power Man, Persuasion, and Gutsen Glory.

It's certainly a less outright villainous roster than we're used to seeing - could this give us some idea of the lineup we'll see in the movie? Spectrum seems unlikely, but America Chavez has already been rumored, and we know a Power Man Disney+ series is in the works.

Check out the cover below along with the official logline.

THUNDERBOLTS (2022) #1 cover by David Nakayama

"Super-powered crooks have taken hostages in Staten Island? A dimensional rift tears open in Chinatown? Monsters running amok at the Met? Call in the THUNDER! In Jim Zub and Sean Izaakse's THUNDERBOLTS (2022) #1, New York City’s finest are here to save the day — Hawkeye, Spectrum, America Chavez, Power Man, Persuasion, and Gutsen Glory! In the aftermath of DEVIL'S REIGN (2021), the Big Apple has big problems, and it’s up to a new group of Thunderbolts to turn things around. But when Clint Barton gets tasked with heading up this team and proving they can go toe-to-toe with anything the Marvel Universe can throw at them, the first opponent he’s going to have to face is himself."

The Thunderbolts were originally introduced as a new superhero team who stepped in when the Avengers were declared dead after the events of Onslaught, but it was soon revealed that they were actually the Masters of Evil in disguise. Ultimately, most members of the team reformed for real, and did their best to become a force for good

@bobevanz - judging by the line up, apparently phase 4 was all leading to wakanda forever. Like, wtf is up with the multiverse saga?

I feel like i’ve seen this article here multiple times before. This lineup is strange and you would think they’d want the comic thunderbolts lineup to come close to the upcoming movie lineup.

Splendid. More Hawkeye the better.

I only recognize half of those people, and I have no idea how they fit as Thunderbolts

@GhostDog - right??? I’m all for keeping things fresh but this looks like the worst roster ever.

@LordMushu - and you look at it and you DO NOT SEE A THUNDERBOLTS ROSTER

Why would any of them be thunderbolts?

Best Thunderbolts sagas were:
- the first, when the team still pretended to be good but it was the Masters of Evil in disguise.
- the level with Norman Osborn in charge, with the team having Venom, Bullseye and others as members

@cadunovaesbr - yes, I totally agree. They have to know those teams were the best. I think they might do a hybrid of the two. I trust em over there at marvel studios.

@CaptainMexico - If I were writing the film, I would have Justin Hammer in the role that was Norman Osborn in the comics, with Val orchestrating everything from an office. My team would:
Zemo
US Agent
Yelena Belova
Ghost
Abomination
and would have one more member (maybe two) with origins told in this movie, to tie the story. It could be Songbird, Moonstone or the Beetle.

@cadunovaesbr - that’s a great idea. I would really like em to get that Netflix bullseye in there somehow. US agent too.

Why even call this team the thunderbolts? It’s a completely new team that almost seems to be a completely different concept than previous iterations, why not just give them a new name?

Marvel Comics 2022. Once upon a time, it was referred to as the House of Ideas.

I feel The Thunderbolts should always be a team of villains impersonating the heroes but without all the nobility.
Dr. Doom as Iron man.
Sentry (he’s on both sides of the fence)
Juggernaut as The Hulk
Bullseye as Hawkeye(because of course)
Taskmaster as Cap
Electra as Black Widow
Hercules as Thor(have Doom make him a Hammer)

Good God. They've totally missed the entire point of what the Thunderbolts are. Hopefully this isn't the direction they are going with the movie.
