Michael Bay Promises A Less "Goofy" TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION

Michael Bay Promises A Less "Goofy" TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION

Admitting to Yahoo! that the last movie overdid the silly stuff, director Michael Bay promises this fourth installment will be an altogether more "slick" affair. He also addresses the reboot/sequel debate. A few very mild SPOILERS ahead.

Yahoo! paid a visit to the set of Transformers: Age Of Extinction, and their report reveals a few new tidbits of information (Mark Wahlberg's "wacky inventor" and Stanley Tucci's character will be involved in the final battle for example), but what will probably interest fans most is director Micheal Bay's claim that this fourth movie in the incredibly lucrative franchise will tone down the "goofiness" that pervaded the previous installments -- and despite rumors to the contrary, this is most definitely not a reboot.

“I wanted the first Transformers to be very suburban and less cool, this is a much more cinematic one. I focused on keeping this one slick. There won’t be any goofiness in this one. We went a bit too goofy [on the last one]. It feels like a new chapter, this movie, but it’s not a reboot. This movie lives in the history of the 'Transformers' movies, and this one starts three years after the last. It feels fresh.”

We'll see. Personally I don't think Bay will be able to resist putting at least one dick joke in there somewhere, but who knows. There's much more at the link below, including interviews with Wahlberg and his co-stars Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor.

Well, I guess we'll see, not having Lebouf in it is a step in the right direction!

Take the movies for what they are worth, they are movies from our childhood and Bay's job is to make money. He did a good enough job where they turned a profit. There may be some ok a lot of head scratching moments in the last trilogy but I for one was excited that they even brought one of my favorite childhood cartoons and brought it to the screen. At least we didn't get a cheap Air Bender or DBZ like quality about the films. I agree the film could have been better but so could have a lot of other movies, I know that it could have been a heck of a lot worse! I am excited about this movie and any other attempts at movies from the franchise because it's an awesome franchise, so whether the re a Go-Bots style like the last 3 or a more serious tone, I will still watch any Transformers movie.

Impossible. Bay's like the Jerry Lewis of directing.

I kinda liked the first movie, it was fun. Starting with the second things just got too stupid for me. Then again I was never invested or interested in the franchise, aside from owning a toy when I was a kid.

haven't posted on here in years but... a lot of you are saying that "Bay promised the same thing in DOTM, and look at that movie"... and maybe i didn't view it the same way some of you guys did, but DOTM was definitely a ton less goofy than ROTF. I agree with Ror... bay will have at least one inuendo joke in there some where, but do we need to have a 2 hr long super serious mope-fest dealing with transforming alien robots?

Michael Bay direct action scenes with the same skill of a three-years-old retarded child.

So GTFO who says that he makes great action movies.

“I wanted the first Transformers to be very suburban and less cool, this is a much more cinematic one."

Wouldn't he want all of his movies to be cinematic in the first place or is this his way of admitting that he f*cked up?

"We went a bit too goofy [on the last one]."
How'd he not see that from the jump. I'll admitt that the first one was pretty good but they just started to decline sfterwards........

You have the ability to make one epic movie Mr. Bay, then let it be this one...

No, they are NOT fun movies.

And don't even come to me with the whole "If you TURN OFF your brain, you'll enjoy the movie", cuz I can olny have fun with a GOOD movie.

And there's no way I'm gonna spend MONEY to be a DUMB for like 2 hours just to "have fun".

@1to10, you do A LOT of calling out but rarely do you have a decent case. As much as you attack Disney for their comedic background, you always seem to conveniently forget what WB is most known for.

@YoungThanos

Very very true.........
That scene where the robots who said that they don't do much reading was definitely aimed at African Americans....I'm surprised they didn't cause an uproar for that. They were way angrier with George Lucas's portrayal of Jar Jar Binks....

Bay is a coked out action and gratuitous sex junkie......I don't mind looking at a sexy lady in a movie but at least have it make some sense....

@Batmaniac

So I'm only allowed to make a POSITVE comment?

Ok, then. Acknowledge.

Man, EVERY film is the type to think about. If you don't take Cinema serious(as an art) then fine. Cuz I do.

And yeah, I'll say again:

Michael Bay direct action scenes with the same skill of a three-years-old retarded child.
