TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS Is Causing Concern At Paramount After Insider Describes Reboot As A "Mess"

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is supposed to serve as a fresh start for the franchise, but one insider has described the movie as a "mess" and claimed it's been causing concern at Paramount for some time.

Michael Bay's Transformers movies weren't exactly beloved among critics and fans, but they still drew a massive audience and broke box office records at a time it was far from commonplace for blockbusters to earn $1 billion worldwide.

Bumblebee was meant to serve as a fresh start but, with franchise fatigue setting in, its $468 million haul wasn't enough for the reboot to be deemed a true hit.

Now, Paramount Pictures is taking another crack at the property with Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Capitalising on 90s nostalgia and attempting to do something truly new by introducing the Maximals, the hope is that this fresh start could usher in a new era of storytelling. The marketing campaign currently feels a little muted, though, and there might be a good reason for that.

Talking on The Hot Mic (via SFFGazette.com), Jeff Sneider claims that there are major issues with the movie ahead of its June release.

"They're getting a little worried about 'Transformers,'" he explains. "This is what they said, they said that 'Transformers' has gone through close to a dozen different editing teams that have argued about different cuts of the film."

The podcast's co-host, John Rocha, took those comments a step further, describing it as a "mess" that the studio is "trying to fix it."

We can't imagine this is going to result in a release date delay, but it might be wise to brace ourselves for another underwhelming Transformers adventure. Unless, of course, Paramount has indeed managed to sort it out in time!

"Returning to the action and spectacle that have captured moviegoers around the world, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will take audiences on a '90s globetrotting adventure with the Autobots and introduce a whole new breed of Transformer – the Maximals – to the existing battle on earth between Autobots and Decepticons," reads the movie's brief synopsis.

As for the cast, that's led by Hamilton star Anthony Ramos, with Dominique Fishback, Luna Lauren Vélez, and Tobe Nwigwe joining him. Peter Cullen will once again lend his voice to Optimus Prime, while Ron Perlman has stepped in to play Optimus Primal, the leader of the Maximals.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is set to be released in theatres on June 9, 2023.

Every Transformers movie, with the exception of the first one and the best in the franchise - Bumblebee - has been a mess. This franchise was never about good stories. It’s about giant robots punching each other. And sky beams.

@mountainman - ''It’s about giant robots punching each other.''

In the end, yeah it is. There being a story or motives around as to why they're punching each other is nice, but not really a necessity to enjoy it imo

@bkmeijer1 - I mean their could be good stories. But this franchise has never been known for them. I was really hoping we’d get a more sci-fi type movie after how awesome the opening sequence of Bumblebee was.

@mountainman - that Bumblebee opening was pretty cool. Wouldn't mind a whole movie of that

@mountainman - there are some really good stories in the transformers universe but the good ones that I’ve read are without humans and isn’t on Earth. And I highly doubt the studios will make a movie like.

@Arthorious - I was simply referring to the movies, which have largely been devoid of plot. I get that the universe has the potential to be good. awe just haven’t seen it on screen yet.

“Brace ourselves”? Seriously, fictional characters in a movie impact you that much Josh? LMFAO

come on dude, each movie has been entertaining to some degree. None of them are intended to win over film critics (who tend to like arthouse movies).

Where was this concern when Bay was making the films

Haven't they all been sh*t?
I mean really...they were all pretty freaking bad. Acting like there's some quality concern seems odd. I would perhaps think there's an issue behind the scenes regarding budget or licensing.

@Blergh - Bumblebee was good.

@TheNewYorker - I mean, I thought Bumblebee was solid. But that's more because Hailee Steinfeld is an elite actress and she carried lol

They played the trailer for this before Beau is Afraid in IMAX, and I can't think of a greater tonal whiplash lol. Looks pretty bad. Travis Knight seems to have been the only guy to have cracked the code for this series.

@SorceresSupreme - i loved 3/4ths of it but the last fourth really shat the bed and left me with a terrible taste in my mouth. Definitely an insane amount of fun before that though

After the first one they have all been a mess, Bumblebee was ok compared to the movies preceding it but it also wasn’t very good aside from that one cybertron scene

It’s sad that a popcorn movie can earn nearly half a billion dollars at the box office, and the movie studio can say “Bah! Huge flop! Reboot it!”
kRAVENkIaw
kRAVENkIaw - 4/22/2023, 10:24 AM
Just do a full reboot already. None of this “it’s a reboot but also not” shit. A Spielberg style movie set in the 80s would be great.

@kRAVENkIaw - wasn't the Bumblebee movie literally that? Seeing how it was basically ET and in the 80s.

I could have told you that from the trailer lol.

To date the only Transformer films I’ve liked are the first and Bumblebee.

Bumblebee I have only seen clips on YouTube.

So on top of the obvious concerns, not getting the character designs right and wrong alt vehicle modes, cramming in beast wars in a modern day setting, there are more concerns
