Paramount has updated its upcoming release schedule, moving Steven Caple Jr.'s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts from June 24, 2022 to June 9, 2023; and pushing the next Star Trek film, which has Matt Shakman (WandaVision; Game of Thrones) set to direct, from June to December 22, 2023.
Rise of the Beasts, which wrapped just last month, will be the seventh installment in the billion-dollar franchise and is expected to be set several years after the events of 2018's Bumblebee, this time taking the story to the mid-'90s. The movie will feature a cast of rising stars including Anthony Ramos (In the Heights; Hamilton) and Dominique Fishback (The Deuce; Judas and the Black Messiah) in the lead roles.

As for the mysterious Star Trek project, it remains unclear whether it will be a follow-up to 2016's Star Trek Beyond, bringing back Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, and that entire crew, or if it'll veer into a different direction with an all-new cast of characters. Josh Friedman, Cameron Squires (Terminator: Dark Fate, Avatar 2) and Josh Cameron Squires (WandaVision) have been tasked with writing the most recent draft of the script.
On a related note, this move comes just days after it was reported that Star Wars: Rogue Squadron would be delayed due to scheduling issues, and while it was believed at the time that it would still make its release date, it seems like Paramount may already know that the Patty Jenkins-directed spinoff will be getting delayed, confidently placing their own sci-fi epic in that prime Christmas slot.
