TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS Pushed To 2023; STAR TREK 4 Takes ROGUE SQUADRON's December Date

Paramount has pushed back a pair of major upcoming releases, moving Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and an untitled Star Trek film deeper into 2023, with the latter taking Rogue Squadron old date.

Paramount has updated its upcoming release schedule, moving Steven Caple Jr.'s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts from June 24, 2022 to June 9, 2023; and pushing the next Star Trek film, which has Matt Shakman (WandaVision; Game of Thrones) set to direct, from June to December 22, 2023.

Rise of the Beasts, which wrapped just last month, will be the seventh installment in the billion-dollar franchise and is expected to be set several years after the events of 2018's Bumblebee, this time taking the story to the mid-'90s. The movie will feature a cast of rising stars including Anthony Ramos (In the HeightsHamilton) and Dominique Fishback (The DeuceJudas and the Black Messiah) in the lead roles.

As for the mysterious Star Trek project, it remains unclear whether it will be a follow-up to 2016's Star Trek Beyond, bringing back Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, and that entire crew, or if it'll veer into a different direction with an all-new cast of characters. Josh Friedman, Cameron Squires (Terminator: Dark Fate, Avatar 2) and Josh Cameron Squires (WandaVision) have been tasked with writing the most recent draft of the script.

On a related note, this move comes just days after it was reported that Star Wars: Rogue Squadron would be delayed due to scheduling issues, and while it was believed at the time that it would still make its release date, it seems like Paramount may already know that the Patty Jenkins-directed spinoff will be getting delayed, confidently placing their own sci-fi epic in that prime Christmas slot.

I honestly really loved Bumblebee.

I hope Rise of The Beasts has heart to it too. A 90s setting is always a plus for me.

A whole year, damn. Either they still fear another covid wave or the movie requires a sh*t ton of effects work, and granted it is a TF movie so maybe it's just that.

Makes sense, it's already almost December and they just finished filming. If they tried making it to June we probably wouldn't have even gotten a trailer till April or May.

A year and a half to wait for them to make the film. That's ages away...

A whole year? And they already finished filming? I guess finishing the VFX (of which there must be a lot) at home is gonna take more time than planned. Or it's another reason, probably.

As for Star Trek, I don't mind that taking Rogue Squadron's date. Kinda look forward to a new entry (although I do know Beyond didn't sit well with everyone, myself included) in that franchise more than in Star Wars right now anyway.

@bkmeijer - Could be aslo possible that Paramount is not happy with how much money films have done lately, so they want to ensure TF has a shot at making at best 700-900 Million dollars if not a billion

Found Bumblebee very okay. Think people overpraised it because the rest of the films are such crap (although the first is a guilty pleasure of mine). Bumblebee borrowed a little too heavily from the infinitely superior iron giant.

I'm really looking forward to the Beast Wars, after Bumblebee reignited my faith that there's competent filmmakers that can treat these characters well. So whatever the reason is, take the time you need. Altho with that amount of time the CGI should look tight, hope that's the case.

@JosephCronos92 - Did not like Beast wars since I grew up with G1 in the early 80s.

@blitzkreg - I grew watching Beast Wars and playing the videogame lol so yeah. But I also got to watch G1, main reason Bumblebee hit me right, the first Transformers movie was fun but it just kept getting worst afterwards, so im glad they trying to do something different.

Damn it. Rise Of The Beasts seemed interesting, now it's gone... 2023 is a hell of a while away considering how insane governments are right now we might not live to see it.

After liking Bumblebee, and hoping the bring in some cool Decepticons, I could be interested.

Star Trek 4, please be cerebral. It won't be, I know. But less action would be much welcomed

Transformers are better as a cartoon. Fight me.

Star Trek is better as an episodic series. Fight me.

The potential blockbuster profits of theatrical releases and short-season arc-focused streaming is causing great franchises to divert their attention away from media that complements their narrative strengths to the detriment of everybody.... uh... fight me, I guess.

I also think both work pretty well in a comic format, but I tend to think everything works well in a comic format. (But even as much as I liked the IDW Transformers series, I struggled to stick with it as it seemed very unfocused and featured way too many characters to keep track of.)
