DJ Caruso Preacher update

While promoting his upcoming family film titled Standing Up, director D.J. Caruso also gave an update on where things stand on the adaptation of Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon's Vertigo comic book series, Preacher. Said Caruso, "I’m still attached to Preacher and we’re wrestling with Sony because I got another movie at Sony called Invertigo, which is a big action film we’re trying to get going this summer. So Preacher got put on the back burner, but we’re still involved with Preacher and hopefully we’ll have some good news on that soon. Todd August wrote a great script. I think it’s one of those features that has to kind of go through the studio system if it’s going to be made for a certain price. So we’re kind of revisiting a way to approach making the movie in the right way."

The director also touched on a sequel to I Am Number Four, adding, " It’s come up before because we did decent numbers here in the states, but we didn’t do great, but really internationally the movie did well and it has this huge following so I get that question a lot. The Power of Six, which is the second book and would feature Number Six a little bit more, we’ve talked about it, but nothing’s really jumpstarted. There’s been some talk in the past couple of months about trying to do something because there is this audience appetite out there and even on my Twitter account it’s crazy. Most of the people on Twitter that contact me from all over the world ask, “Where’s the next movie?” I think DreamWorks is getting those too so it’ll be interesting. I don’t know if I’d be involved, but I know they’re talking about it."

Preacher is a comic book series from writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon, that's published by DC Comics imprint, Vertigo. The story follows Jesse Custer, a preacher in the small Texas town of Annville who was accidentally possessed by a supernatural creature called Genesis, an infantile entity that very well could be the most powerful being in the universe. This supernatural occurrence prompts Dillion to begin a cross country pilgrimage to discover the truth about his newly acquired powers.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I do want preacher made but like most ppl I think tv would be best like hbo. I'm not sure a movie or even trilogy could do it justice. However I'd be happy to just see it made at all.

If u haven't read preacher ur missing out its the best comic series I've ever read by a mile

I Am Number Four was a better book, the movie cut out like 60 percent of the actual story. I havent read Preacher but if its as good as I hear a movie wouldnt do it justice, especially with this guy at the helm. I think comic book interpretations should move to television, that way we can get the most of story lines.

This isn't dead? I Am Number Four was pretty shit. but I'd love to see an attempt to get Preacher in live action, however I think a cable series would be so much better. HBO, AMC, Showtime, etc.

The closest movies I have ever seen to Preacher are Drive Angry, and Walking Tall, (which is fair because it's a remake of a movie that Preacher was based on partially) neither of which blew up the box office, I think if Preacher was made into a movie even if it was amazing, it would bomb like Dredd.

So the actual artist put himself in the comic book and begins a cross country pilgrimage to discover the truth about his newly acquired powers?

If there's actually a sequel to I Am Number 4 than we should be getting The Lone Ranger 2 soon. LMBO

If you haven't read Preacher read it NOW all 60+ issues and all the tie-ins. It is FANTASTIC. unless you are real religious then stay far far away from Preacher.

Also- Probably un-filmable.

Preacher is waaaaaaaay too big to film. It's one of those stories that should just remain a comicbook. The structure isn't right for film or TV.

So I hate to admit it cuz I hate the whole Twilight trend that I Am Number Four fits in to, but IA#4 had a pretty badass climactic battle. The fight choreography and stunt coordination was on point, and the storyline wasn't terrible. It's all the bullshit teenage melodrama and angst that gets slapped in these films that loses people. But that big battle at the school at the end of the movie had some very impressive shit involved.

Other than that, I agree, the movie sucked.

Never read Preacher. Garth Ennis' stuff just never seemed like something is get in to. Might have to try it out tho.

Preacher is one of my FAVORITE stories of all time and mostly because of the explicit dark humor.I truly think that in the hands of a movie studio the story would be bastardized. This is a rare occasion where they should leave well enough alone and not make it.Theres no way that movie could be made properly with any less than a hard R rating.......

Boo to a Preacher movie. Yay to a Preacher series. I think most of us can agree with that.

Also, as far as Caruso being attached, I don't *dislike* him, but I wouldn't say that he inspires great confidence in me for an incredible Preacher movie being made.

Yeah, got to say its such a huge & awesome storyline that a movie could not do it any justice, T.V. would be a more feasible option.

HBO would be my favourite way of doing this, 99% of the time hollywood are going to water it down and bastardize it , which would be a tragedy

They would butcher Preacher if they did a movie. Studios want profit so say goodbye to shocking scenes like decapitated angels and deicides. HBO or nothing in my opinion.
