Ever since, its release in 2003, TWD has given us some moments far more shocking than we've seen from either Marvel or DC. The following is thewalkingdead.com's top 12 list of shocking moments, as well as posts from fans on instagram, facebook, and twitter. What do YOU think belongs on this list. 12. That Eye Lick
We know a LOT of shocking moments have occurred throughout the series…but this one was one of the ctaziest non-death-related moments. Carl’s boo Lydia comes from a mysterious community that wears skin as clothes so MAYBE this isn’t the strangest thing about her. Still, this was too kinky and horrific not to add to the list. *shudders*
(OK, maybe not up there with Glenn’s death…but it was still shocking).
11. Carl Kills Negan’s Men
“What’s that, Negan? You’re going to kill my friends, invade my community, and think you’ll get away with it?!?! THINK AGAIN! RAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKA! And keep the change ya filthy animal. Rakaka.” – Carl (possibly not verbatim).
10. Rick Bites That Bandit’s Neck
This parental act of awesomeness made Liam Neeson’s Taken character look as badass as the fake baby from American Sniper. Holy sh*t these bandits messed with the wrong parent. SO, out of weapons and f**ks to give Rick goes full zombie (never go full zombie) and takes a juicy bite out of the bandit’s neck! Yum!
9. TAINTED MEAT!!!
Soft Cell may have been on to something. Look, dying sucks. It sucks even harder if cannibals treat you like a giant pork-chop. HOWEVER, if you’re Dale and you had just been bitten by a zombie then prepare to sit back and hysterically laugh at the cannibals eating your TAINTED MEAT. Revenge in The Walking Dead is so so so sweet.
8. Negan Guts Spencer
Hate to say anyone deserves to die, but this IS The Walking Dead. After Spencer suggested his plan to overthrow Rick Negan decided it was the most cowardly thing he ever heard and SLICED Spencer to death. It was a rare moment fans cheered for Negan.
7. Rick’s Hand Getting Cut off
Compiling this list helped us remember how much of a maniac The Governor really was. The Governor questions Rick on his living situation, Rick lies, and The Governor has him held down and CUTS HIS HAND OFF! Although this wasn’t played out in the show, this was still one of the most insane moments in the comics.
6. Michonne Brutalizes The Governor
Good lord, revenge is sweet. After days of being brutalized, tortured, and raped by The Governor Michonne finally got free and exacted her revenge. It was perhaps the most scream-out-loud holy sh*t moment in the series up until that point.
5. Carl Shoots Shane
If you ever find yourself questioning Carl’s character, angsty attitude, or hairstyle then MAKE SURE YOU REMEMBER the time when he shot and killed Shane to save his dad. It was the moment TWD fans took a step back from the page and said, “You’re all right, kid.” However, as satisfying and necessary as it was, NO ONE expected little Carl to make such a dramatic move.
4. Lori and Judith Get Shot and Killed
JESUS. Just when you thought this prison storyline was over and enough characters had been killed off they kill Lori and her BABY Judith. How many other comics have you read where a baby is taken out WITH A SHOTGUN?! This horrific event marked a dark turn for Rick emotionally.
3. Alpha Kills 12 people and puts their heads on spikes
JUST when we felt everyone in Alexandria was finally safe (they had candle shops for God’s sake) new baddie Alpha goes and infiltrates the walls, chats up the locals, AND MURDERS, DECAPITATES, AND PLACES THE HEAD OF BELOVED CHARACTERS LIKE ROSITA AND EZEKIEL ON SPIKES. Although we’re still feeling the repercussions, it’s obvious this move will serve as the inciting incident for something BIG from Team Rick.
2. Carl Gets Shot in The Face
After a brutally traumatic turn of events (Jessie AND Ron getting killed within seconds of each other) Carl gets accidentally SHOT by Doug and loses his eye. Although originally presumed dead by readers, Carl eventually embraced his injury with the encouragement of a psychopath with a bat and daughter of a murderer.
1. Negan Brutally Kills Glenn
FINALLY…we’ve come to the most shocking moment of the series. This monumental issue featured our favorite characters getting captured, Negan being introduced, and Glenn receiving the MOST gruesome beating we’ve seen in this series to date! This was voted by you guys as BY FAR the most SHOCKING moment in The Walking Dead comics (and we must say we agree with you)!
