Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Robert Kirkman has revealed that there was set to be a fifth casualty to accompany the shocking deaths of Shane, Dale, Patricia and Jimmy. Who was it? None other than Hershel himself! "Hershel was originally going to be murdered by Randall in episode 12. So we were going to lose Hershel, Randall, and Shane all in one episode, which I felt was really cool," revealed the creator of the comic book and writer/executive producer on the show. "But at the end of the day we had so much story to tell with Hershel, and he had such a central role in the ensemble, and Scott Wilson is such a phenomenal actor that we felt like it was overkill. So [he] got a reprieve." Fans of the Image series will know that Hershel eventually [SPOILER] dies at the hands of the Governor [END SPOILER] and it's obviously unknown whether or not the show will now follow this. How would you have felt about them killing off Hershel? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.

Wouldn't have liked that at all, Dale dying early was bad enough. Let's give..the above person...the proper send off they deserve when the time is right.

Plus the actor who plays ... that man to avoid spoilers (though if you're already this far into comments, what's wrong with you? You're going to be spoiled)is a phenomenal actor.

He was kicking a lot of ass and taking many names in that finale. would have been very disappointed if it was the end for him.

I hated Dale, Loved Shane. I could care less about Hershel.

I freaked out when Dale died because besides Shane staying alive, and Sophia dying it was the one MAJOR parting from the comic counterpart. But i think i would have been pissed if they killed Hershel as well keep him around just a little bit more for the prison.

Hershel was a punk at first but as soon as he picked up a gun he became one of the best characters, kill everyone except Rick, Hershel, Daryl and Glenn. Ultimate zombie killing quattro!!!!

Why do you yanks say "could care less"? It's COULDN'T care less! If you could care less that means you DO care. Anyway, just always curious about that.

bbarber, nope, Ireland

I was upset with the death of Dale, if "The person mentioned in the article" died at that point, I dunno if I would have found the episode to be as good.

I'm honestly just happy/surprised that Daryl & T-Dog are still alive. I felt this episode was definitely great and a much better season finale than the one we got for Season 1.

Great but next time try not to spoilers in flips sake!, Came here to find out was going to die, not about who will die in season 3 which is partly misleading!

Hershel really came out of his shell during the last episode. He was putting them walkers down like he was at the arcade.

Dude there are spoiler warnings all over this article. I have been mad at a few people for what they put in the headlines but you have literally no argument on this article. He warned you there are spoilers and you not only clicked on the article but apperantly ignored the spoiler warnings within the article.

Yeah i don't think this could of been anymore pre warned for spoilers, and who says they will kill him in season 3? Shane lasted quite a while longer.

@Ror... could care less and couldn't care less.. us "Yanks" were taught the fundamentals of a double negative..."could not care less" means the amount of caring is less caring than I refuse to accept.."I could care less" mean I have the ability to not care as much as what the caring requires! BTW Im from Texas so far from being a "yank" my friend!

Yeah, sorry Yanks is an affectionate term for you here..It's just easy that typing Americans! Lert, umm..not getting ya. If you could care less about something then there is room for you to give LESS of a [frick] about it. In order to care less about something you must care a bit in the first place..see? If you couldn't care any less than you are at the absolute bottom of the caring scale.

Please let it be Laurie next don't care how it's done it can be a stampeding heard of disgruntled goats for all I care!
Lert
Lert - 3/20/2012, 11:55 AM
I understand but when it came here as a term we had to correct it! British thought was meant to be sacastic..NOW! if it's formed as you so eloquently put-(If you couldn't care "ANY" less than you are at the absolute bottom of the caring scale.) That I can deal with... Ror, its the dumbing of the language.. short-cuts that we lazily interperate! A conundrum..

Lert
Lert - 3/20/2012, 12:02 PM
unfortunately your and mine both make sense! You acceptance is the original.. The change is ment to be literal accurate but, like you said, with a hint of caring but just not as much as what the subject hopes I would care for..

Hey now, no need to call us "Yanks". It's not like we go around calling you "mick" or "paddy" or "bog Irish"... ;)

This was talked about on "the Talking Dead" right after the episode ended. I know some don't get the episodes till Friday, so I guess this is "breaking" or a "scoop" and not really a "spoiler" unless you're talking about mentioning in the article the othe ones that died in the episode....which you didn't have to. Couldve just said Herschel...and then the why.

Great find anyway!

eleven59 - 3/20/2012, 12:12 PM
I guess Couldn't means you're at the bottom of caring... while could means I can go lower but why bother lol

SPOILER! Wonder if he'll marry Glenn and Maggie? But then again I wonder if Michonne will get raped, Rick loses his hand, and if Lori gets an intestinal exam, and if Michonne stays awhile after the group leaves and she goes to the Governor and Chops his arm, leg, and penis off. Shit would be epic!
