THE WALKING DEAD Chief Creative Officer Scott Gimple Teases A Possible Solo MICHONNE Movie

Danai Gurira made her final appearance as Michonne during last Sunday's The Walking Dead, but the franchise's CCO has dropped some hints about the katana wielding badass receiving her own solo movie!

Declining ratings have been a problem for The Walking Dead for a long time, but AMC still has ambitious plans for the zombie franchise which include a potential move to the big screen.

A Rick Grimes movie is the first major expansion of this world, but another fan-favorite character is being eyed for her own solo film in this post-apocalyptic future. When The Hollywood Reporter caught up with The Walking Dead Chief Creative Officer Scott Gimple, he teased Michonne's theatrical future.

"With the films, we definitely have plans," Gimple promised. "But even beyond the current plans, I have some ambitions. I love her and Rick together, but I love seeing her as the pure lead on her own, too. It just so happens that there's a lot of story terrain to cover. But you're right: it's ambitions. Right now, the plans have to do with the feature film."

The plan for now is to put Michonne in the Rick Grimes movie, but her hunt for her former flame is bound to see the zombie killer head down some unexpected and new paths. Those could easily be explored on the big screen, and with Danai Gurira's star on the rise thanks to the Black Panther franchise, AMC would have a potential guaranteed hit on their hands.

More Michonne would be welcomed even by those who have happily given up on The Walking Dead, but it might be smarter to see how Rick Grimes does before committing to anything else!

Scott Gimple: “Okay, everybody! We have some exciting news to share!”

Everybody: “AMC is finally canceling The Walking Dead?”

Scott Gimple: “Nope! We’re making movies now!”

Everybody: “Why?”

Scott Gimple might be the worst thing to happen to the walking dead and instead of firing him, AMC gave him a promotion.

Unemployment rate is at it's worst since 1982 and yet this guy still has a job after what he did to this show. Amazing.

This show never properly tapped into its western energy as much as it should've.
