THE WALKING DEAD: Photos From Next Week's Episode Tease Rick Grimes' Final Appearance - SPOILERS

AMC has released a batch of photos from this Sunday's episode of The Walking Dead and with Andrew Lincoln set to make his final appearance as Rick Grimes, these may shed some light on his final fate...

As The Walking Dead's ratings continue to plummet, an end of an era is coming our way on Sunday as Andrew Lincoln bids farewell to the AMC drama. In these new stills, we see that he manages to escape the predicament he was caught in during the closing moments on last week's episode but it appears as if his days are numbered as he continues to lead the herd away.

Will they eventually consume him or will he turn and join them? Alternatively, could Rick find a new community or even be kidnapped, thereby leaving the door open to a return down the line?

Honestly, we have no idea as of right now but depending on how the character's departure is handled on Sunday, there's a very good chance that the show could lose another lot of viewers (which is exactly what happened when the likes of Glenn and Carl left The Walking Dead).

This gallery includes a very ominous shot of what may very well be Rick's demise, so click on the "View List" button below to take a look at these new images from the episode (titled "What Comes After).

Rick Grimes has been a staple of The Walking Dead since day one. Can the show survive without him? The current plan is to make Daryl the lead character, a decision which has split opinions.

A heroic sacrifice is no doubt a fitting way to bring Rick's story to an end and him leading this herd away from Alexandria (even if it results in his death) could be a good farewell for the hero.

Rick clearly isn't in a good state and that wound could very well be life-threatening. How underwhelming would it be if he just passes out and becomes a walker? We'll see.

Is this the moment Rick dies? It could be that he's simply passed out from blood loss but this would be a pretty iconic shot of the fallen warrior as he finally realises that he can fight no more.

Rick may very well use this cabin to hide out but what happens if he's surrounded by the herd with no escape? Could he decide that taking his own life is the best way for his journey to reach its end?

This is where we left Rick when we last saw him and he's clearly in a bad way. Other photos here confirm that he manages to escape but seeing how he pries himself off that slab should be...gory!

Another rather ominous shot, Rick's gun has become an iconic staple of this series and the fact it's probably just going to end up lost is a tad underwhelming. Then again, it's not like Carl can use it!

The undead attack in these very cool images but will one of them be responsible for us having to say goodbye to Rick Grimes? I guess we'll find out one way or the other on Sunday...

Could have just opened an episode with his zombified head on a pike leading into the Whisperers, but nope. Hour plus drawn out montage to remind the last few remaining viewers of the previous seasons while the character just dies slowly.

@Reeds2Much - It's so sad and pathetic now. The show pratically is a walker.

I'm sorry to see Andrew Lincoln leave the show and I understand why. Even though the show's ratings aren't good the show is best its been in the last two years. I think the show will bounce back the acting is better the storylines are the showrunner, Angela Kang is doing an excellent job.

@bobbo68 - too bad it’s not good, I recommend reading the comics in the entirety so you can see how soap opera the show is and how good it could have been.

This would've been the perfect opportunity to have him wake up in the hospital bed, realising it was all a dream. But no, the show must continue to haul in money I guess

Probably the best actor on the show, so WD is going to take a big hit. I'm actually liking the season so far but when they killed Carl the show died.

Come to Hollywood now, Lincoln. Join your man Bernthal up there with some of the best.

Seriously. I always thought Andrew Lincoln and Jon Bernthal were amazing while they were on this show together, but I never would have thought Hollywood would notice either of them. I was wrong, at least with Bernthal so far. I wonder if Lincoln will get the same amount of phone calls as he did as soon as he left all those years ago.

The ratings might be falling but the quality of this season so far is leaps & bounds above season 8. I'm pretty damn upset about Rick leaving but I'm willing to see how this season plays out at least.

I thought the show runners said that Andrew Lincoln was doing 6 episodes this season?

My dad told me about this show and it had Zombies, gun fights and good acting. One day we were at his house & binged the season just in time for the Season 1 Finale. Been hooked ever since.

Through good and bad I've watched this show, fell in love with the characters and then the show grew into something bigger for my family.

I'm going to miss Andy Lincoln so damn much! I hope they pull a fast one and he's not gone for good. I'd be fine with him disappearing for a while then coming back for the last 2 or 3 episodes before the series finale to save the day.

Not getting into the quality changes over the years. This show has too much sentimental value to me.
