Sherlock Holmes can tell a software designer by his tie and an airline pilot by his thumb. He has a unique analytical brain and, unlike anyone else in the world, he staves off boredom by solving crimes. When a chance encounter brings soldier John Watson into Sherlock's life, it's apparent the two men couldn't be more different, but Sherlock's intellect coupled with John's pragmatism soon forge an unbreakable alliance. In season three, Sherlock returns but will things ever be the same again?

According to EW, Sherlock will return to PBS Masterpiece on Jan. 19 at 10 p.m. Now obviously UK fans will get it earlier on BBC, but we don't know exactly when yet! They also report that the first ep will be called The Empty Hearse and solves the mystery of Sherlock’s "death". The second episode is titled The Sign of Three and features Watson's marriage to Mary Morstan, and then the third episode is The Last Vow.

I disagree Godzilla, he was very calm and ruthless when he needed to be. The screaming maniac that you're talking about only appeared on the rooftop where he knew that Sherlock and him were both about to meet their end (or maybe not for either one, maybe they successfully tricked each other and the audience). That rooftop scene is one of the best scenes I've ever seen (on TV or film) period, it's one of the most intense and memorable hero/villain confrontations of all-time. Makes me wish that the writers on the show would work on a character like Daredevil and bring them to television with this same level of integrity and class.

@Godzilla
Moriarty's completely insane. I thought they did a great job with him. He was still a genius, but obviously a sociopath (who sometimes have child-like tendencies, as you see in Sherlock occasionally) [pyschopath may be a better term for him due to his criminality) with some other psychological issues. It felt like a proper twist on this modern take to make him more erratic. Moriarty's actor didn't win awards because his portrayal was unrealistic.

I have awaited this news with bated breath. Both Series so far have been great television. I loved everyone in their respective roles. On Moriarty, at first I was taken aback at how he was being played, but it was the absolute perfect twist for the modern day retelling. I think I will be there to watch once again the great detective.

I LOVE the way Moriarty was portrayed in this series. So updated and modern and nothing like the typical cheesy, cliche' one like in Robert Downey Jr's movies. His take on it was effectively creepy, sinister, sarcastic, and hilarious enough to be a proper archenemy for Sherlock. It's a shame they probably can't bring him back again, it was great.

I loved this take on Moriarty! He was hilarious, but quite menacing in his insane way.

Can't wait for Sherlock to continue! I liked the respective second episodes of both seasons the least so far, but the other four are among my favourite television of the past years.
