Earlier today, actress Charisma Carpenter shared disturbing details of her time working on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel with Avengers director Joss Whedon, and her buffy costar Sarah Michelle Gellar has now responded.
Gellar's Instagram post is not exactly in-depth, but she does seemingly distance herself from Whedon while claiming to stand "with all survivors of abuse."
Gellar likely issued this statement after being pressured to do so by her social media followers or contacted for a response by media outlets, and it shows. Some have criticised the actress for not taking a stronger stance one way or the other, but at the same time, it's difficult to blame her for not wanting to get immersed in the drama.
Would it have been better to say nothing at all?
UPDATE: Fellow Buffy actor Michelle Trachtenberg (Dawn) has added a comment to Gellar's post, accusing Whedon of "not appropriate" behaviour.
"Thank you @sarahmgellar for saying this. I am brave enough now as a 35 year old woman....To repost this. Because. This must. Be known. As a teenager. With his not appropriate behavior....very. Not. Appropriate."
There's been radio silence from Whedon and his camp, but if the filmmaker hopes to salvage what's left of his career, he will issue a statement.
