After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he's become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow - a vigilante to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be - flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle - while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel's father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver's own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine.

I was watching an episode of Smallville back in 2009, and I said to mysel. "It would be cool if Green Arrow got his own TV series" Three years later, Green Arrow get's his own TV series! Oliver Queen is one of my favorite characters on DC comics. Can't wait until next week.

I'll give Arrow a shot. It seems they are going for a more action oriented show, with other DC heroes and villains thrown into the mix.

@grif- LOL love havin ya around. Glad you're back to being an angsty teddy bear again btw.

I really like Guggenheim and Kreisberg, both swell guys and real fans. I only wished they had worked on Smallville. Maybe then Superman could have had a proper origins/destiny depiction.

Real reasons:

-can be done for cheap
-setup makes it easiest to ripoff Nolan's Bat-films.

Bull's eye. Doesn't mean it can't be a decent show, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

@RexDartEskimoSpy

Well you MIGHT enjoy it if you completely ignore that it's supposed to be a superhero show.

But then again, the premise is ludicrous, and the only reason its getting a free pass on that account is because it's a superhero show in the first place.

So... I think this will just be a confused mess. That will collapse in itself for making a superhero show, while simultaneously trying their best to not make a superhero show.

Even Smallville was more accepting of the superhero nature of their series, and the guy wasn't even Superman till the last 10 seconds or so, out of ten years worth of episodes.

For me, the biggest red flag is the promo images. They're all so dark and vague, like the network is embarrassed by what they ended up with.

Personally, I'm not particularly interested because it's young, unsure, finding his feet Green Arrow. I love Ollie as he's portrayed in the comics (and on JLU): a seasoned, cranky, older adventurer who's seen it all, which we're clearly not getting in this show. Hopefully, they'll at least incorporate the leftist, anti-establishment, pseudo-Robin Hood aspects of the character. *cough*occupywallstreet*cough*

I've seen the pilot episode.

Here's the deal. It's pretty good and entertaining to watch as long as you can handle the fact it's not really Green Arrow.

I mean it's sort of Green Arrow from the Longbow Hunters era (showing my age here) but they really are trying to make him into a dark character.

I've always thought of Oliver being very similar to Tony Stark (minus the alcoholism). He's rich, funny and basically doing this because he enjoys it. This version of Oliver is definitely not the smartass you love seeing in print.

Oliver feels very Batman-esk here. He's seeking justice for his city. If you can deal with that you will like the show because a lot of the corny things that plagued Smallville don't seem to be a problem.

Frankly after watching it I was struck by the thought that they'd been better off doing the Question instead of Green Arrow because that's who this version of Oliver really is.
