ARROW Star Colton Haynes Says The New Showrunner Is Bringing The Series Back To Its Roots

The first two seasons of Arrow managed to cultivate a fairly large and loyal fanbase, but Seasons 3 and 4 saw many fans put off by a number of the creative choices. Since then, the past two seasons have made some strides to get viewers back on board, but there are those who think the series has more work to do.

And though we’ll have to wait until this fall to see if Season 7 actually succeeds in this endeavor, actor Colton Haynes said Arrow’s new showrunner, Beth Schwartz, is making a lot of changes to try and channel the feel of the show's earlier days.

"I can’t say much, but we’re returning back to our roots on the show. Not the characters, but the show — We’re going back to how we were a couple of seasons ago. But it’s going to just be so good. Beth Schwartz, our new showrunner, is just — She’s a dream. She’s changing everything and she’s making everything the way I think the show was at the beginning."

In all, these comments aren’t too shocking, as the recent Comic-Con trailer seemed to show that Season 7 was at least opting for a tone that’s more in line with earlier seasons.

Though, that's not to say we shouldn't expect Arrow to explore some new ideas when it returns, as we all know Oliver is going to spend some time behind bars, which is a new experience for the hero.

I hope it's true. I really disliked season 6 for the most part, but that comic con trailer looked really good and I'm excited to see Arrow get back to the quality of season 1, 2, and 5

Cut the season into 3 arcs. Why do they keep trying to stretch these storylines over 24 episodes?? Things start to get tired and boring and tedious after 6 anyway

They need to cut out a large portion of the cast and kill off Felicity. That would help a lot.

And why not explore Earth 2 Laurel Lance’s backstory? How did Oliver die over there? Why did she become bad? What is THAT earth like from the perspective of the Arrow cast?? I like the Supermax idea but please don’t mad it a whole season. And stop the big bad. Every superhero show doesn’t need and ultimate big bad

I can tell you this, after Arrow, The Flash, and Supernatural end I will never invest my time into a tv show that goes on for more than 13 episodes a season again.

@BreakTheCode - Right. The only shows that go beyond 13 episodes nowadays are NETWORK shows. All the great shows out now are 10-13 episodes

@krayzeman - While I think it really helps out for one hours to have shorter, more concise runs, I wish that half hours weren't getting the shorter runs still. A lot of half hours don't seem like they'll ever get to truly grow into themselves anymore because of that.

I think Kimmy Schmidt was a huge victim of this - being a show that could have had a larger run in a shorter amount of time.
