Stephen Amell Talks ARROW, THE FLASH, And Making The Jump To The Big Screen

Saying he's "indifferent" to a Green Arrow movie, Stephen Amell echoes the thoughts of most comic book fans by revealing that he believes Grant Gustin should be playing The Flash on the big screen. He also drops some HUGE hints about what's to come in Arrow...

The decision to keep the TV and movie DC Comics adaptations separate has upset a lot of fans, with many hoping actors like Stephen Amell (Arrow) and Grant Gustin (The Flash) would make the leap to the big screen in time for Zack Snyder's Justice League. Amell has pointed out a number of times that they're building up a team of heroes of their own on The CW, and when The Wall Street Journal caught up with him recently, they asked if he's ready for a Green Arrow movie. "I am completely indifferent. First of all, wanting a movie undersells the idea that making 23 episodes a year isn’t a huge achievement...I’d put making 23 hours of interesting content in a TV season up against anything on the film side. It is difficult to me to want or envision an “Arrow” movie when we are shooting the 10th episode of our third season with 13 more episodes to go and in all likelihood 3 more seasons on the other side of that. I’m interested in keeping that content fresh. Once we get to the end of that road, maybe then I’ll shift my focus."

However, Amell does believe that if Green Arrow is brought to the screen, it should be him who plays the character and revealed that he feels even more strongly that Grant Gustin should have been called on to play the Scarlet Speedster in the recently announced movie. "I feel like it should be Grant doing the movie. But the important thing to remember is just because Grant Gustin plays the part of Barry Allen doesn’t mean Ezra Miller can’t also play Barry Allen. There can be different interpretations of the character. Anyone who is a fan of the comics knows the Flash character is one of the forces that leads to parallel universes. And who knows, they might find a fantastic actor to play Oliver Queen on the feature side who has a different take on the character. I’m certainly a departure from the typical Oliver Queen from the comic books. I just think that everybody needs to be patient with the whole thing. The fact that DC and Warner have announced all these comic book features is nothing but good for business." It's hard to disagree with anything the actor says, and despite how much sense his opinion makes, that won't stop many from being disappointed that we may never see Amell and Gustin on the big screen!

As for what's coming up on Arrow this year, Amell dropped some very intriguing hints about what we should expect a little later this year/early next year. "I’ll give you something for episodes that are going to come after our fall run, stuff in our winter run. I have never, in my history with “Arrow,” had as light a schedule as I have had for the past several weeks… ever! It’s been very strange, let’s just put it that way." Could we be looking at a run of episode without The Arrow or with him taking a step back to allow Arsenal to take centre stage? Oh, and that upcoming crossover with The Flash? How can Oliver Queen hope to contend with the superpowered youngster? "Speed doesn’t equal experience. Let’s just put it that way. And I am 8 years older than Grant..."

However the quality on tv is limited. Films have a higher budget and an increase in quality.

So far Im already feeling Ezra more for the Flash. Grant would be out of place compared to everyone else imo

But people are going to ignore that part and get straight to the complaining, as usual.

@ALegendaryPanda

Ezra will be only different in appearance I think. But overall its still the same character but Miller is way more talented than Gustin by far

I feel like he's bitter that they arent connecting everything. In the end I think its for the best.

I agree completely. The funny thing is, whenever I hear someone criticize Ezra Miller's casting it's never about his acting talent. It's always because he looks too "feminine". Which is quite possibly the dumbest argument of all time

I think Ezra Miller would have been better a Kyle Ryner, he kind of looks the part but I know he will do an excellent job as Flash. What I do not know is if he will be Barry or Wally, do you guys know for sure?

I honestly like that Gustin kid, and I never thought I'd say that about a WB actor

I feel like Amellnis mad he isn't on the big screen as Arrow. He just seems adamant about getting a big screen adaptation. I do like Gustin though

for me I see it like this:

having different interpretations of the same character like the flash in the show and the flash in the movies and having a gotham city from the show and the gotham from BvSDOJ means one thing: MULTIVERSE!!!! haha yeah I am that of a Geek!

So, has it even been confirmed that Ezra is playing Barry in the Flash movie? He could be playing Wally, which might explain the racial difference.

That said, I agree with Amell, in that they really should consider the TV actors for these movies. Connecting the DCCU is the one thing that would totally destroy Marvel right now.

@RacShade

Ezra Miller is 200% more talented than Grant. Keeping it separate allows creative freedom and multiverses. Grant wouldnt fit with everyone else.

Yeah it was confirmed that he's playing Barry Allen

yeah man, I think Ezra will be a great flash. I grew up reading Wally west as Flash (i'm a 80's guy) so I really hope the flash from the DCUverse is Wally. I kno, I know it is old school but what can an old man do

He looks older than Grant so I dont understand your logic there.... Im just showing how narrow minded you are bc you just said this universe is tained by his casting without seeing it

Whoa whoa....shut the f*ck up Amell... If the CW finds out you're getting deeper in your 30s, they'll kick you out. That's why Tom Welling is my parking lot security coworker. Nice guy. Cries a lot when he thinks no one is looking.
