Surprising New Details On CONSTANTINE's ARROW Role; How Is 'White Canary' Involved?

Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim has spilled the beans of John Constantine's (Matt Ryan) "one-time only deal" to appear in The CW series, including how his arrival in Star City will be tied to the resurrection of Sara Lance, a.k.a. Legends of Tomorrow's White Canary!

Earlier today, we found out that Matt Ryan will reprise the role of John Constantine in season four of Arrow. Now, executive producer Marc Guggenheim has revealed even more details about what's to come when the DC Universe's resident Hellblazer visits Star City. Describing it as a "one-time only deal", Guggenheim had this to say about how Constantine's arrival will shake things up. "Each year on the show, we have added and expanded the mythology with different elements. In Season 2 we introduced the idea of superpowers, last year brought in the League of Assassins, and for Season 4, we always had a plan to introduce magic and mysticism. We were already swimming in those waters and that's why Constantine is this great organic little development."

All this talk about Constantine appearing being a one-time thing doesn't make much sense. After all, Warner Bros. can do what they like with the character because they own the rights, so unless Matt Ryan is keen to move on from the role and wants to play John one last time as a farewell to fans, you have to believe that he could reappear somewhere down the line. For whatever reason, it doesn't sound that way though. "This is something the fans were clamoring for," says Guggenheim before praising DC for being "magnanimous and generous in giving us this one-time dispensation. The trench coat, the tie, the shirt...the whole wardrobe is being taken out for storage and shipped up to Vancouver." The clothes aren't all Constantine is bringing wth him as one of the director's of that now cancelled series - John Badham - is set to helm this episode. "He is familiar with Constantine and Matt Ryan, so it’s a wonderful combination," Guggenheim adds.

So, what brings Constantine to Star City anyway? The executive producer didn't want to give too much away, but teased that it will come from the fallout of Sara Lance being resurrected in the Lazarus Pit. "Unlike Thea, who wasn’t fully dead, the consequences of using the pit on someone as dead as Sara was creates some unforeseen difficulties...and John Constantine is uniquely suited to help our team deal with those." Are you guys looking forward to this crossover?

I'm calling bull on this. There is no way they don't utilize more of Constantine down the road. Season 4 maybe packed, but WB would be stupid to pass up on more of this.

@MrJillyMcBeam Constantine didn't have good enough numbers for NBC, but they were great for the CW. My guess is that the CW probably got permission and made a deal that if Constantine is well received in the Arrowverse and by the CW fans that they would give him a show again. Maybe become a part of Legends of Tomorrow or it's own show like Legends with a 10 episode season.

@Kr08
I doubt they will pick up Constantine. If they truly wanted to it would have happen already. Besides the ratings, they really don't need Constantine at the movement because they still have Supernatural which is more or less the same genre as Constantine.

I'm thinking it absolutely has to do with Justice League Dark having Constantine too.

@BlackStar25 Which why I figured they have an option 2 and have him in Legends of Tomorrow or something like that.

All we need now is info on the TITANS show and if it's connected to the Arrowverse.

@Kr08 highly doubt it. CBS owns cw and it won't even connect to Arrow, Flash and supergirl. I doubt tnt will connect to cw. Can't wait for the show. It's basic cable but the slightly higher budget shold allow for some cool stuff

Can Deathstroke be recast and be included in this new show I wonder???
Kr08
Kr08 - 8/11/2015, 7:56 PM
@ComicsBornAndBred I hope they connect. The second that TITANS announces that they are having Manu Bennet returning as Deathstroke will be the definitive answer.
GhostDog
GhostDog - 8/11/2015, 7:58 PM
@Kr08 remember, recently Bennett said he'd never return as he hated the way arrow used deathstroke in season 3. Maybe a recast is in order. It's too badass a character not to use. Even if recast, Im still excites if he's used. And his presence carries more weight on a titans show as the history between slade and the team is so amazing and significant

I feel like they should have started with this. What they should have done was have Constantine appear on Arrow (or Flash) first, then have his NBC series as a loose spin-off series of sorts.

Oh, and they should have f*cking promoted it.

I'm extatic and sad at the same time. Extatic that i'll be getting to see Constantine again. I really enjoyed that series, but sad that it's only a one-time thing. Was really hoping a couple episodes could have been dedicated to closing off the events of season 1 while incorporation Arrow's storyline. And hopefully renew interest for a season 2 of Constantine.
