BATWOMAN: It Sounds Like We Can Forget About The CW Series Introducing A Small Screen Batman

In news which is bound to disappoint a lot of comic book fans, the upcoming Batwoman TV show starring Ruby Rose reportedly won't be allowed to feature the Dark Knight. Hit the jump for further details...

Last year's Arrowverse crossover - "Elseworlds" - featured the small screen debut of Batwoman and a huge number of references to Batman. While it was confirmed that the Caped Crusader exists in that world (but is regarded as a myth), we learned that Bruce Wayne went missing a number of years ago.

However, those of you hoping to see Kate Kane track down her mentor may be disappointed.

A new report claims that Batwoman will get "as close as it possibly can" to featuring Batman without ever physically introducing him. The show will also include a number of familiar faces from Gotham City but it's said that Bruce Wayne "remains off-limits for the foreseeable future" in the eyes of The CW.

This is definitely pretty disappointing, especially as we know Batman will be featured in the series finale of Gotham. That's clearly going to be a one-off, though, and it seems as if we can look forward to the Dark Knight's existence being handled in a way that's equally as frustrating as what Titans has done (referring to him on a constant basis and showing him from afar).

@Nebula - I was going to say the same, They did great with the way they handled Superman would love to see what they could do with Batman too. Even if it's just cameo's here and there.

@Nebula - I think also with Supergirl it was dropped my one network and moved to another so they brought in Supes to boost the start of the second season. Maybe if Batwoman doesn’t do too well they’ll pull in Bats the same way

They could use the lack of Bruce Wayne as part of a season arc.
Use Hush for a season long big bad, but have him pose as Bruce Wayne, and focus on Kate discovering who he really is then exposing him.
Could bring in rating if they keep it a secret and advertise it as Bruce Wayne

@dracula - I don't think loopholes will be allowed.😂 An imposter or even a photograph of Bruce Wayne/Batman, would likely be off limits. The big question though, is what about all the other Batfamily members, and villains. If all the fan-favorites are off limits, then having the show set in Gotham City, will have been a silly decision.

@WAKANDABATMANFOREVER - If they can get away with something like that, I think it could make a great story.

On Villains, id say it would be best to avoid the complaints supergirl gets by using major Superman villains, stay away from Joker, Riddler, Penguin, Catwoman, basically anyone from the golden age, unless they are doing some kind of event like a crossover or a Batman appearence. They should stick with more modern villains like Lady Shiva, Bane, Hush, Hugo Strange and basically anyone created by Scott Snyder, Grant Morrison or James Tynion.

For Batfamily members I'd say stay away from the Robins and Barbara Gordon as Batgirl, instead use lessor known members, we pretty much all know Luke Fox will at some point become Batwing, also use Azrael and Orphan

@dracula - Jason has to return to Gotham to claim the bat's mantle and carry the bat-symbol on his chest.

@Repian - Pretty sure he would be off limits because of Titans

WB: Bruce, don't go past the end of the street. Do not enter CW Avenue! You hear me?!

@dracula - Idk Titans couldn't even show him beyond a dark silhouette and him moving in the dark but never seeing his face. We'll see I guess.

Translation: the moment the show's ratings drop past a certain point, we'll introduce Batman.

Obviously. And a smart move. This version was terrible in the crossover event. Hopefully they learned a few lessons about what did and didn't work since then, but they can't drag Batman down with her.
