Batwoman is bringing in another classic Batman villain for season 3, though this Killer Croc isn't Waylon Jones. Instead, we're getting a newly created character called Stephen who winds up being infected by one of the villain's teeth that was stolen from the Batcave in season 2.
Stephen then transforms into a new Killer Croc "whose hunger and ferocity may even exceed that of his predecessor" according to a description shared by Entertainment Weekly. From there, "Batwoman will be forced to decide if there's enough of Steven left in this new Croc to reason with, or if he's already too far gone."
According to Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries, she wasn't initially sold on the idea of "a crocodile as a character on the show." However, "Once you mine it and mine it and find this core essence of it and you can apply science to it, even if it's schmience, I can ground it in reality somehow and it'll make sense in my brain. So that's what we did with Killer Croc."
The character design is pretty much what we expected from a small screen take on Killer Croc, though he does look quite similar to the version of the villain we saw in 2016's Suicide Squad.
For whatever reason, Warner Bros. appears to favour a humanoid take on Croc. It's a shame Batwoman didn't head down the CG route, but The CW series has a limited budget, and that was probably always outside the realm of possibility. It is what it is, but here's hoping this episode proves to be a fun ride for the character; if nothing else, seeing the Caped Crusader battling some familiar Gotham City rogues is what fans have wanted from this show since the beginning.
