First Look At Ruby Rose Suited Up As The CW's BATWOMAN Has Leaked Online And It's Seriously Amazing

In a post that since been deleted, a first look at Ruby Rose (Orange is the New Black) as Batwoman is doing the rounds on social media and to say her costume is comic accurate would be an understatement...

Yesterday, Stephen Amell said that fans of the Arrowverse should stay tuned for something big today at 9am PT but that now appears to have leaked online hours in advance! As you can see, the promotional image below offers a first look at Ruby Rose suited up as Batwoman, a character who is set to be introduced in this year's Arrowverse crossover (which should actually start shooting any day now).

While it's not clear how this photo leaked online in advance, Twitter accounts are being suspended for sharing it so that proves it's the real deal. So, what does this first look tell us about Batwoman?

Well, while that cape probably could have looked a little better, the rest is very comic book accurate right down to the pale skin and red lipstick. Rose, in fact, looks like she's just stepped out of the character's comic book adventures and it's hard to imagine fans finding fault with this version of the superhero. We'll update with a higher res image when we have one but share your thoughts below.

When CW gets to adapt DC characters first because their cinematic universe sucks and CW gets the costume right:

@mastakilla39 -
Well, besides Flash (who still looks recognizable) which costumes have the DCEU gotten wrong?

@Battabing - I don't care if I'm in the minority on this. I'm right.

@mastakilla39 - I don't get how Titans can use Batman but the CW can't...

@Spock0Clock - I'm with you, mate. Love the trunks and never understood the hate - not only do they have that "old-fashioned" feel, but they also provide a break for the blue (in supermans case)

@Battabing - DCEU has never gotten the costumes wrong. I just think its a shame that CW gets to bring it to life 1st before the DCEU. the casting and costume looks amazing. Batwoman was supposed to debut on the big screen but due to WB troubles everything that was supposed to go on the big screen is going to TV 1st: Lobo, Batwoman, Flash, Titans, etc. It's a shame and makes it harder to adapt for the big screen if the tv version is good, sorta like the Flash TV Show.

@SonOfAGif - I believe you are talking about the image below? From the report, batman is not in Titans. The suit is only used by a stunt double to make a "silhouette" of batman's presence. Batman will not be a character in TITANS. Gotham was also not allowed to use the costume or mention the name of the batman or joker either.

See 1:13, I think this is how they plan to use Batman for Titans too except Titan gets to actually mention the name "Batman"

It's certainly faithful. Not sure about that cape, but we'll see it in motion.

A lot of the CW stuff looks a lot better or worse in motion than it does in the promo pics, and it's often hard to tell which way it's going to go.

So, I get that it's a wig, but I do question the wisdom of a mask/wig combo that can easily block your vision. It's the most minor of nitpicks, I know.
jmorin
jmorin - 10/9/2018, 7:33 AM
@Spock0Clock - yea, but if they made it more practical (and different from the comics) people would bitch and moan "OMG, how hard is it do red hair?"

Can't win.
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 10/9/2018, 7:38 AM
@jmorin - Oh, I'm not suggesting they shouldn't have done it in adaptation. I was really more talking about the original design.

But for TV, yeah, definitely follow the comic design. Batwoman and the Carol Danvers redesign have been two of the more striking and successful costumes in recent comics.

It's a universe where we're supposed to believe a guy with a bank account can put up a fight against a guy that can bench press planets.

MRVN
MRVN - 10/9/2018, 9:04 AM
@jmorin - Agreed. And while I absolutely understand where you're coming from @Spock0Clock, I think the TV shows do themselves a disservice by going for practical costumes. Most of the superheroes costumes (especially superheroines) that most people are familiar with are crazy impratical.
Himura
Himura - 10/9/2018, 9:42 AM
@Spock0Clock - now we’re complaining it’s accurate to the comics? I mean, every female superhero has their hair down like this in the comics but only now is the complaint brought up?
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 10/9/2018, 10:23 AM
@Himura - The only reason I brought it up is because it's a wig. Kate Kane decided to add this to her costume despite her own very sensible short hair.

No need to be defensive.

@Spock0Clock - i agree about to the 2 redesigns. can we agree that the Spider-Woman redesign sucks. what happened to her suit evolving over time?
LeonNova
LeonNova - 10/9/2018, 7:11 AM
Definitely comic-accurate, though the cape and hair are kind of awkward looking to me. Still, not bad though, hope this show ends up being pretty good.
Zoinkberg
Zoinkberg - 10/9/2018, 7:11 AM
Well. You cant say it's not accurate.
SethBullock
SethBullock - 10/9/2018, 10:36 AM
@Zoinkberg - Yes, it is, and it looks (imo) awful, but that's because I think the comic book version is ridiculous and it's impossible to accurately adapt it without looking ridiculous.

I repeat this is just my opinion, maybe the fans of this character will love it, when I read Batman comics a long time ago this character didn't even exist afaik.
