Warner Bros. Animation has debuted the first trailer for DC Super Hero Girls, a new animated series coming to Cartoon Network next month.

The new series, which is actually based on a franchise of direct-to-video movies and webisodes, aims to build character and confidence and empower girls to discover their true potential. In doing so, it takes DC's strongest female heroines and reimagines them as "not-so-typical teenagers."

The newly released trailer is filled with humor and heroics featuring the adventures of Diana (Wonder Woman), Kara (Supergirl), and Barbara (Batgirl). Along with a colorful cast of Super Hero friends, our DC Super Hero Girls must protect the citizens of Metropolis from the "sinister school-aged Super-Villains," all the while dealing with the everyday struggles of being a teenager, like dealing with the stress of school, friends, family. Of course, with super powers and a secret identity, managing their social life becomes even more complicated.

Saving the day is super easy when you’re a Super Hero. But stopping evil in its tracks while keeping up grades and managing a social life, all before curfew? Ugh. That’s, like, super tough. DC Super Hero Girls are more than crime-fighting besties, they’re a diverse group of dedicated super-teens! Working together, they fight the battles of Metropolis and the battles of growing, up all at the same time. Always discovering new ways to control their powers and abilities, these awesome girls are quickly learning (sometimes the hard way) how to deal with the super challenges of being a teenage Super Hero. We all have the power to make a difference. Just make sure to use it for good or you’ll find yourself up against those tenacious teens, the DC Super Hero Girls.

DC Super Hero Girls premieres on Friday, March 8 at 6:00 p.m. ET/PT, with a one-hour movie special, "Sweet Justice," that will air across all Cartoon Network platforms. New episodes in the series will air every Sunday at 4:00 p.m. ET/PT starting on March 17.

"This looks better than young Justice. I hope my gurl Harley is in it. I wish I could relate to Bumblebee, but she's black. 60 million opening weekend."

Ruhtless.

@DoubleD - The very second Battle Angel starts you are sucked into this movie. Can't leave your seat. The Rollerball game is MIND BLOWING but the whole movie is a visual treat.

Some of the voices don't seem to suit the characters...

This looks a lot better than what we got from the previous DC Super Hero Girls. But isn't this like the third time using this name?

What happened to western animation?
Especially in regards of superhero based shows...

@ThunderThighs - At least we still have YJ.

But yeah, I don't understand why shows like this exist. It's pretty weird that DC think they have to dumb down their shows and characters to make them appeal to girls when they just don't have to do that. You can make a show that appeals to girls without sacrificing what makes the DC universe great.

@Nightwing1015 - It's like they think that girls aren't smart enough to get into the "real" DC. Or anything else that looks similar to this show (the reboots of She-Ra and Carmen Sandiego come to mind)

Supergirl looks like she's one outfit change away from becoming Power Girl. She looks cool, but it's odd.

Hah this looks terrific for its target audience, love the designs and personalities shown in the characters, DC has some very strong female characters.

"not-so-typical teenagers." [...] dealing with the everyday struggles of being a teenager, like dealing with the stress of school, friends, family. Of course, with super powers and a secret identity, managing their social life becomes even more complicated.

So ... how long before they're selling selfies to J Jonah Jameson?
