Geoff Johns Hypes The DOOM PATROL Spinoff With A Hat-Tip To Grant Morrison

DC Entertainment President and Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns has shared his excitement about the Doom Patrol spinoff receiving a backdoor pilot from the DC Universe's live-action Titans series.

Geoff Johns doesn't Tweet very often so his post regarding the recently announced Doom Patrol spinoff should be an indication of his excitement for the project.

More interesting is the shoutout to Grant Morrison, who took over the Doom Patrol series in 1989, from issue #19 to #63 in the collected works of Volume 02, Part 02. Perhaps that's an indicator that Morrison's run is an inspiration for the tone and plot of the upcoming series? The book during that period was known for its clever homage and parodies of more famous comic book storylines.

Before Geoff Johns' Twitter feed descended into the utter nonsense of fans demanding the release of the "Snyder-cut" of Justice League, Johns also confirmed the obvious: that the Doom Patrol's appearance in the Titans TV series would be centered on Beast Boy.

I just love the titans so much I can't wait to see them no matter how their costumes look but I have no interest in Doom Patrol, perhaps the episode featuring them can change a lot of people's minds who have a similar belief.

Anyone who read Doom Patrol recommend any comic storylines.

@MrCamw1 - I haven't been able to keep up with it as often as I'd like, but the current run through the Young Animal imprint, is really good. It started, I believe around the same time as Rebirth hit.

cool. i’m okay with this. i just wish it wasn’t going onto this streaming service. i definitely saw doom patrol as having more film potential than series potential.

@TheRealTomServo - I think it would work better as a film too.

As I figured.

Really can't wait to see what Titans and Doom Patrol will offer. New territories to explore.

If Berlanti is involved ...no thanks...

Morrison's run is so wonderfully bizarre.

Basically DC's version of Legion. Hopefully the production values are just as nice.

I don't think Johns is capable of capturing the strangeness and awesomeness of Morrison's Doom Patrol. They have radically different styles and approaches. It's almost like mixing water and oil.

@johnnymarr -
Is Geoff Johns writing the Doom Patrol show?

@Battabing - He's a producer. But he probably will have some kind of input in the scripts, considering his track record with the CW TV shows.

Berlanti and Johns...idk. Show needs a Noah Hawley type.

I would wait to see how Titans does before talking ahead.

Morrison’s doom patrol run was absolute insanity. There’s some reall mind bending stuff in there, and i hope they don’t shy away from it all.

I'm just so confused how these universes are going to go together? Is this going to be its own thing on the DC streaming network? Or with CW? Or the DCEU?

That's why it's called the multiverse.

I rather have a animated show, Titans looks like straight trash.
