GOTHAM Showrunner Teases That Bruce's Journey Into The Dark Knight Draws Inspiration From BATMAN: YEAR ONE

Gotham has mainly been the story of a young Jim Gordon, however, showrunner John Stephens recently said that we will start to see Bruce Wayne take larger steps towards becoming Batman in season four.

Batman is slowly, but surely coming to Gotham. The show has always dropped little hints and teases about Bruce's future, but the upcoming season four will look to kick it in to high gear as seen in the San Diego Comic-Con trailer.

Showrunner John Stephens talked at the Gotham panel at Comic-Con about Bruce's transformation, and says they're drawing inspiration from a very specific comic book. “He will wear body armor and grappling hooks, but he will not be Batman,” said Stephens.  “It’s a little more of a Batman: Year One in a different setting.”

He went on to speak about Bruce being closer to Batman then he has ever been before this season. “I’d say visually, when you look at what Bruce is going to be doing this season, it's gonna look far closer to what our conception of Batman is definitely gonna be” he teased. “You're also going to get to see him do very specific things, certain elements like when you watch Bruce Wayne acting like a playboy, we sort of ask the question, how did he learn to do that so well? Well, maybe there's a time that he wasn't pretending to be that. And we actually play with a little bit of Bruce having a teenage spiral, where he enjoys the elements of being a billionaire with no parents in Gotham, that he can draw from later on to become the fake playboy.”

Gotham
, season four, returns to Fox on Thursday, September 21st.

From the ending of season 3 I figured they'd be more likely to do Batman Earth One than Year One

A younger Bruce Wayne in the Batsuit, but he's really shit at being Batman.

I'm betting he gives up the heroics pretty quickly after his inexperience earns him a beatdown. It would be nice to Bruce cut loose and spend some of his money having fun before he becomes a permanent party pooper.

I hope Bane and Killer Croc appear this season. Also, it might be time for Harvey Dent to start transforming into Two-Face.

This show is garbage.

If this show had any smart people involved, they wouldn't have started the show with the death of the Wayne's but with Bruce leaving Gotham for 8-10 years to train & set it inbetween that timespan

Instead with get a Batboy because Fox finally realized nobody wanted to watch a Batman show with his villains without any Batman in it

@LEVITIKUZ - Your first mistake is thinking it's a Batman show, when there are hundreds of other interesting people who live in Gotham.

The biggest problem with this show is it ruins the mystery of Batman that the comics, films, games, & cartoons handled

Did Batman make his villains or did happen themselves?

The BTAS Trial handled this perfectly where they all would've turned out how they were if Batman didn't intervene

But because Batman isn't around & Nygma is now Riddler in the show along with Freeze being Freeze & more, that question is ruined. The question can only exist if Batman intervened when the villain first appeared

@LEVITIKUZ - I never understood why Bruce would need to train for 8-10 years. That would make him train straight through the prime of his life. 5 years training is enough. We might even see it if the show continues that long.

@Nightwing1015 - Well if he left at 20 that's now 28-30 he's at

Plus I mean this is a guy who studied numerous martial arts, engineering, being a detective, & so much more

@LEVITIKUZ - Ya it sounds like this time period was never going to work for you. You probably should have known since the show was announced or at least since S1 that this wasn't for you.
It's not great by any means, but its better than the other Batman related shows out there...

@GratefulBat - ...There are no other Batman related shows on right now... you can't mean its better than BTAS...

@LEVITIKUZ - I agree with that point, but to say it is garbage just because it does not follow the storyline we are used to is not a good reason to say it is "garbage". I feel the same way about the whole "Man of Steel" thing with Superman killing Zod. It creates a different storyline and although it rubs me the wrong way, it does not mean the movie is "garbage".

@LEVITIKUZ - So just because it's not what you wanted means it's bad? Lol. Okay.

I love how this show has developed. If only this kid can add some weight, he'd be a perfect Batman.

@KWilly - He's already tall. There were a couple of scenes last season where it seemed like young Bruce is already taller than Gordon and Alfred.

If you think of this show as the origin of Batfleck, suddenly it makes a lot more sense. Both are equally terrible takes on the character.

Still waiting for this show to commit to a timeskip. We can get the proper Batman origin similar to Daredevil season 1. Plus a recast.
