HOUSE OF CARDS Star To Play 'Mr. Freeze' In GOTHAM Season 2

Season two of Gotham has made perhaps its biggest casting addition to date with Victor Fries/Mr. Freeze, and you can find out which House of Cards fan-favourite is playing him after the jump! We also have a detailed description of this take on the character...

He plays one of Frank Underwood's closes (and, er, intimate) allies in House of Cards, but Nathan Darrow has now joined the cast of Gotham's second season as Victor Fries, a.k.a. Mr. Freeze. The character is set to appear in episodes twelve and thirteen, and he's described as follows: "Though ferociously smart and eminently capable in his work as one of Gotham’s preeminent cryogenics engineers, Victor struggles to make meaningful connections with others. The one exception is his wife, Nora, who has tragically fallen ill with a terminal disease. Victor’s love for Nora knows no bounds, so as her condition worsens, he goes to extreme measures to figure out a way to freeze her before she dies. This harrowing journey leads to his transformation into the legendary DC villain, Mr. Freeze." Nora has not yet been cast in the series, but it sounds like this is yet another bad guy whose origin story will play out before Bruce Wayne becomes Batman. The villain last appeared in live-action in 1997's Batman & Robin where he wasplayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Gotham, a series about Batman without Batman sounds amazing.

Great, after all, Mr. Freeze is still one of my favorite Batman characters, especially because of Batman: the animated series and the movie Subzero.

Your right! What they've done with Gotham IS amazing.
And it has Bruce Wayne. And Bruce Wayne became Batman as soon as his parents were murdered. The costume and the gadgets came later, but in his mind his path was laid out on the fateful night.

Do the writers remember, Bruce is [frick]ing 12 and all this shit is happening now?

This show would have been better if the series began once Bruce left Gotham to go train and all this shit happened while he was gone.

Only 4 more months until season 4. This season will probably end with a cliffhanger on election night.

I know some people STILL have a hard time getting over the concept of this show. I'm a life long Batman fan too, but I really enjoy this alternative "the villains made Batman instead of Batman creating the villains" take on the mythos. In a weird way it almost makes more sense that Bruce Wayne became Batman because of these "out of the ordinary" criminals. And if you can buy into this concept, you must agree the showrunners are doing a decent job with it. I'm sure there are a few rigid fans out there that just can't except this show, and that's fine. I think it's too bad, and they're missing out on some great fun, but to each his own. I've bought and read comics for over 50 years and have seen characters and storylines change and shift so much over that time that I've become very flexible.

That's how it went down in the New52. All of this happened before Bruce became Batman... although in the new version, Fries was never married to Nora. She was just Waynetech's first frozen cryopatient, and Fries grew obsessed with her. Just because they kick off the story doesn't mean he needs to put on the cryosuit anytime soon.

@LEVITIKUZ

The show could have definitely been better if it went in a different direction

But, once you get past the deviation from the source material, this show isn't bad at all

I've been enjoying this season very much so far. What happened to Nicholas d'Agosto? I liked him as Harvey Dent.

If Mr. Freeze looks as awesome in the series as he does on the poster, then I'm excited for this. Considering the great job they did with Firefly's design, I think we're in good hands on that department.

Hopefully they take inspiration from the BATMAN TAS episode "Heart of Ice" and the graphic novel, BATMAN: MR. FREEZE.
