Syfy and David Goyer's venture into the superhero world will take an interesting turn with their Superman prequel series, Krypton. The series was originally thought to just focus on Superman's grandfather, Seg-El, though it was later revealed at San Diego Comic-Con that a time-travelling plot to assasinate Superman is what sparks the events of the story.

Syfy has given the series a premiere date of March 21st, 2018, and revealed a new image that features Seg-El's grandfather, Val-El (Game of Thrones actor Ian McElhinney), along with his parents.

Are you going to be tuning in to watch Krypton's premiere? Let us know down below!

Why should we care about the stakes here, when everyone who knows anything about Superman—presumably, the very target audience for this show—knows Krypton’s eventual fate?

Maybe the show can answer that.

I always get the feeling that Goyer is convinced that all these nerd properties are like oil- a resource to exploit by whatever means necessary with no thought to any of the repercussions. He loves Superman like an oil baron loves his oil.

If they had the budget, it'd make a lot more sense for them to make a show about Oa. Much better idea than about a planet we all know blows up.

Here's a novel concept. How about somebody in Hollywood actually make a comic book accurate, well written movie about Superman instead of these pointless prequel shows.

You know what would've been a more novel, unqiue idea?

A show called Hawkworld based on the Timothy Truman Hawkman run. Policeman Katar Hol rebelled against the corrupt neocolonial system, and was sent into exile. However, 10 years later, he escaped and got the help of Shayera Thal, a young officer from a lower class of society, to uncover and defeat the renegade police captain Byth. At least this would be relatively new territory. We've never seen much of Hakwman's mythology on screen, let alone his homeworld.

Intergalactic Judge Dredd aesthetic

These guys like Goyer have this very limited idea pool and comics registry.

@BlackBeltJones - But why make a cool concept like that when they can just mine the crap out of the part of Superman lore that exists only to explode?

Some facts about Krypton to show you this show could be really cool even though everyone dies at the end:

-They had a rigid family caste system
-Krypton had three major city-states: Argo, Kandor, and Kryptonopolis
-Kryptonians only lived on one of the several continents on the planet. The other continents were jungles filled with O monsters.
-Kryptons grew clones for use as organ donors. There would eventually be a clone rebellion known as the "Black Zero" war.
-Tomar-Re was the green lantern of their sector. Kryptonians were isolationist and refused aid in any situation from the Green Lanterns
-Krypton had its own Superhero who called himself Nightwing.
- In some realities Brainiac was a Kryptonian computer program
-Doomsday comes from ancient Krypton

Let's see all of this in the show.

@noahthegrand - the budget of this thing would need to be astronomical for a TV Show
