SECRET SIX Series From SCRUBS Creator Bill Lawrence In The Works At CBS

It looks like another DC Comics series may be on its way to your small screen in the not-so-distant future as CBS has given a pilot production commitment to a show based on the The Secret Six.

Variety is reporting that CBS has given a pilot production commitment to a DC Comics series based on The Secret Six, which currently has Rick Muirragui (Suits), Bill Lawrence (Scrubs), and Jeff Ingold (Whiskey Cavalier) attached as executive producers alongside Warner Bros. TV.

Muirragui penned the pilot episode and the logline sounds pretty faithful to the source material: "Secret Six centers on six morally ambiguous strangers, each with their own unique specialties and secret pasts, who are brought together by an enigmatic figure who blackmails them into working as a team to expose the corruption of the corporate and political elite."

For those unfamiliar, the Secret Six is a name shared by three different teams in the DC Comics Universe (as well as a fourth in an alternate universe). Each incarnation of the team unsurprisingly has six members,
led by a mysterious figurehead, who goes by the alias Mockingbird. Each member of the six typically assumes Mockingbird is one of the other five members of the squad, which tends leads to a lot of tension and distrust.

I love the concept that they’re blackmailed to work against corruption😉

Seems kind of weird why they would send it to CBS instead of, ya know, that paid subscription service they want everyone to buy, but maybe that's just me.

Alternatively, I like this idea and the people behind it.

@Oberlin4Prez - Yeah that is odd. I wonder if they’d make more money from selling the rights rather than through their paid service🤷🏽‍♂️

@ChangAlang - IDK, but it just seems like they're undercutting their case for having this service if they're then going to make new shows that don't end up on it. I mean there's still quite a bit of DC stuff that isn't on there yet, but still this doesn't make much sense.

@Oberlin4Prez - they don't want to pay for it themselves / don't believe enough in it themselves

Well I’ve always enjoyed the comics. Judging by that description it wouldn’t need to be a very comic book-y show to fit it. But yeah kind of weird to hear CBS when you have to assume they are very invested in getting people signed up for their streaming service.

So we should expect a Supergirl vibe and production value? Supergirl had its start on CBS.

@BlackBeltJones - Not gonna lie, I'm half-expecting this show to follow the same foot-steps as Supergirl. Start out on CBS with good production quality, then shift over to the CW with a much smaller budget at hand because CBS didn't like the ratings. Oh well.

@ComicsBeyond19 - You left out the part where it moves over to the CW with a smaller budget but becomes a better show

Folks, I don’t think they’re using the Scandal-led version—probably the original 1968 first team.

I saw this on Twitter but I wasn't sure I had read it right. I wonder how much they have learned from the time they worked on Supergirl to give another property, that I was not aware of, another shot.
