After revealing their 2020/2021 schedule, The CW has released a synopsis and poster for Superman & Lois. The former sheds quite a bit more light on the series, emphasising that the story will revolve around Clark Kent and Lois Lane tackling the challenge of being the parents of two teenage boys.

Their return to Smallville is also confirmed, and we now have more details on how Lana Lang (Clark's "first love") factors into things. Meanwhile, it appears as if General Samuel Lane will be sending the Man of Steel on missions, while that "stranger" is going to shake things up in a big way.

As for the poster, it puts the show's two leads (Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch) front and centre.

Here's the lengthy synopsis for the series which gives us a better idea of what to expect:

SUPERMAN & LOIS — In SUPERMAN & LOIS, after years of facing megalomaniacal supervillains, monsters wreaking havoc on Metropolis, and alien invaders intent on wiping out the human race, the world’s most famous superhero, The Man of Steel aka Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin, "Teen Wolf") and comic books’ most famous journalist, Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch, "Grimm"), come face to face with one of their greatest challenges ever – dealing with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society. Complicating the already daunting job of raising two boys, Clark and Lois must also concern themselves with whether or not their sons Jonathan (Jordan Elsass, "Little Fires Everywhere") and Jordan (Alexander Garfin, "The Peanuts Movie") could inherit their father’s Kryptonian superpowers as they grow older.

Returning to Smallville to handle some Kent family business, Clark and Lois are reacquainted with Lana Lang (Emmanuelle Chriqui, "Entourage"), a local loan officer who also happens to be Clark’s first love, and her Fire Chief husband Kyle Cushing (Erik Valdez, "Graceland"). The adults aren’t the only ones rediscovering old friendships in Smallville as the Kent sons are reacquainted with Lana and Kyle’s rebellious daughter, Sarah (Inde Navarrette, "Wander Darkly"). Of course, there’s never a dull moment in the life of a superhero, especially with Lois’ father, General Samuel Lane (Dylan Walsh, "Nip/Tuck") looking for Superman to vanquish a villain or save the day at a moment’s notice. Meanwhile, Superman and Lois’ return to idyllic Smallville is set to be upended when a mysterious stranger (Wolé Parks, "All American") enters their lives. Based on the characters from DC created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, SUPERMAN & LOIS is written and executive produced by Todd Helbing ("The Flash") and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns. The series is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

A bit of false advertising, since this show takes place in Smallville and not Metropolis.

@tmp3 - Wonder if they will be using the same location for the kent farm that smallville used

Superman behind Lois. Of course lol.

Seriously though, he looks good as Supes.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Really like this guy as Supes. He brings back a much needed optimism to the character. Hopefully this show continues this aspect.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - I was going to say "Superman is bigger and that's how photos work", but actually looking at promotional photos from other shows, they do weirdly put Clark in front of Lois a lot.

Like... who the hell composed this [frick]ing photograph?

Get thee behind me, woman!

(But seriously, if this irked you, you've probably got a problem, because this is and has been a common pose forever.)

@tmp3 - When I was looking for pictures, I genuinely forgot that Cavill and Adams had played Lois and Clark.

@Spock0Clock - But you remembered the Clark/Lois from the Bryan "poolboy" Singer film? lmfao

@Spock0Clock - He's not exactly lovingly holding her in his arms in this image though. This one looks like Lois is front and center just because you know, she's better.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - The same could be said of the MOS image though

@Nightwing1015 - It all depends on the angle. At that angle, having Lois behind Supes wouldn't make much sense. Her head would be barely be visible behind his shoulder. At a centered angle, having the taller person in the front doesn't disrupt the image, hence why mostly every image of Batman and Robin has Batman front and center, despite Robin being shorter. Batman's the star, so he's in front.

Anyway, I'm mostly joking. It's not the end of the world if Lois is in front of Superman lol, but with how Superman is always treated as inferior to everyone in these CW shows, it just feels more apparent.

@Spock0Clock If it was any other version of Superman and Lois, then of course I wouldn't care, but this is the CW version Superman and Lois. With how they've treated Supes as a sidekick to everyone, yeah this image does semi worry me if it's a sign of how their dynamic will be on the show.

Wait if they live in Smallville......are they gonna live on the Kent Farm from Elseworlds? That would actually be great, I'd watch every episode just for the location.
