Shooting is currently taking place for The Flash's ninth and final season, and a surprise villain has been spotted on The CW series' set. As you can see below, the Scarlet Speedster will be squaring off with Captain Boomerang, though this isn't the same version of the character we've previously seen on screen.
In the comic books, George Harkness first appeared in the pages of The Flash #117 and went on to become one of the hero's most recognisable Rogues.
In 2016's Suicide Squad, the DCEU's Boomerang was captured by the Fastest Man Alive during an attempted robbery. That take on the villain was played by Jai Courtney, though the Arrowverse's version was brought to life by Nick Emad Tarabay. After first debuting in season 3, he was later killed off by Adrian Chase, a.k.a. Prometheus.
Of course, Courtney's version died in last year's The Suicide Squad, likely opening the door to The Flash being allowed to use the character again.
This time, it looks like The 100 star Richard Harmon is playing Captain Boomerang. While it's possible this is a new character who has taken over the mantle, we'd guess that the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths simply mean that The Flash's old foe has been resurrected with a different face.
Very little is known about how The Flash plans to conclude, though it is expected to serve as the end of the Arrowverse. Stargirl takes place in its own world (though presumably the same one as Titans based on recent set photos), as does Superman & Lois. While there was a time they were connected to this reality, that's an idea DC appears to have moved on from.
