THE FLASH: Chris Klein Cast As DC Supervillain Cicada; Barry Allen Gets His Ring In The Electric New Trailer

The CW announced today, during their final panel of a jam-packed DC day, that Chris Klein (American Pie) has joined the cast of The Flash season five as Cicada.

He's described as "a grizzled, blue-collar everyman whose family has been torn apart by metahumans," which means he'll be extremely motivated come this fall as he "seeks to exterminate the epidemic - one metahuman at a time." Well, that should raise some red flags for Team Flash.

Meanwhile, back on the home front, both Barry (Grant Gustin) and Iris (Candice Patton) will have to learn how to live with their time-traveling adult daughter Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy), who needs her father's help with a big mistake she's made. While her relationship with Barry will be pretty solid, it sounds like she's going to be quite cold toward her mother, which can mean nothing good for what's to come in their collective future.

As for other teases, Tom Cavanagh revealed that he'll be playing a new character named Sherloque Wells, who is unsurprisingly very intelligent, but may not be someone that can be trusted. Executive producer Todd Helbing also teased more deaths and new villains, including a younger version of The Rogues. Plus, they're already mapping out a Gorilla Grodd and King Shark team-up episode for the latter half of the year.

After outthinking The Thinker, you’d hope that Barry Allen aka The Flash (Grant Gustin) might have some down time to contemplate his future with his new wife, Iris (Candice Patton). But with their speedster daughter from the future, Nora (new series regular Jessica Parker Kennedy), already grown and a part of their lives, they’ve now got to face Central City’s newest menace — the DC Super-Villain Cicada! Season five pits Team Flash against yet another formidable adversary, the show’s second non-speedster Big Bad, it was revealed by cast and producers at the show’s 2018 Comic-Con panel on Saturday, July 21.

Chris Klein (Election, Oz, American Pie) has signed on to play next season’s scourge of Central City, Cicada. A grizzled, blue-collar everyman whose family has been torn apart by metahumans, Cicada now seeks to exterminate the epidemic — one metahuman at a time.

The Flash returns for season five on Tuesday, October 9, at 8/7c on The CW. Based on the DC characters, the series is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Todd Helbing, Sarah Schechter and Eric Wallace. The Flash is produced by Bonanza Productions in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television.

The Flash features:
Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash
Candice Patton as Iris West-Allen
Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost
Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon/Vibe
Tom Cavanagh as Dr. Harrison Wells
Jesse L. Martin as Detective Joe West
John Wesley Shipp as Henry Allen/Jay Garrick
Michelle Harrison as Nora Allen
Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West/Kid Flash
Violett Beane as Jesse Quick
Danielle Nicolet as Cecille Horton
Hartley Sawyer as Ralph Dibny/Elongated Man
Jessica Parker Kennedy as Nora Allen
Chris Klein as Cicada

Wow. Chris Klein is truly a terrible actor. Sub-par at best. Certainly not main villain material.

@tazmaniak - I highly doubt he's the main villain. More like an what Alchemy was to Savitar.

Chris Klein is a pretty terrible actor. Tommy Wiseau probably watches his stuff and thinks “This guy needs acting lessons.”

I know a lot of people weren't keen on last season...but I thought it was kind of okay, especially compared to season 3. Hopefully this one is a step up though, but this trailer doesn't really ignite any hype. It's further proof that the Flash has a limited amount of villains he can be threatened by and they NEVER should have killed off his big bad who could have propelled the series forward.

Maybe the Flash will do the impossible this year and give us a quality season like the first.

I'm finding it hard to be excited for this show after the last season. I hope they slim down on the cast a little, it's a little too crowded, they need to tell more focused stories. Also, cut down on the campy heart-to-hearts.

I guess I'm the only one on here who feels this way, but I like Chris Klein lol. I'm intrigued to see him play a part like this. I like what they're saying about season 5. Season 4 wasn't great but I did think it was an improvement over season 3. Here's hoping season 5 improves more.

Flash ring, welcome back! I wonder how far close they can make the suit even more comic accurate. Could be the last and final upgrade by the hype behind it. But it also poses the question of what happens to the other one...like...oh wait that's right, it got destroyed when Barry (and Nora) destroyed the satelite that DeVoe sent upon the city. Duh!

So it'll debut in the first episode which explains as well the pics we saw from earlier this week showing Barry in his old suit with Nora out there fighting too. I love it when things start to come together.

I get Barry's apprehension of Nora staying too much here.

Heard Wally will be around for 3 episodes, I hope that it is true and his exit by then is better than in S4.

Not the look I expected from Cicada but I am intrigued. The charade and "disguise" of an everyman can be deceitful, but also curious how he looks as Cicada. So far we just know he breathes harshly ala TDKR Bane and goes with a hoodie and that lightning bolt that reacts to the Speed Force. I must say I liked the touch of him arriving home and seeing on the news the events from the S4 finale.

Pretty excited and can't wait for more.

I'm looking forward to this season, poor Barry and Iris will have to worry about doing it at the right time so Nora will exist...

Are we going to keep cycling through different Wells until we meet HG Wells from our own universe?

Their take on the lightning bold dagger isn't bad. I'm curious how much they are going to change while keeping him as resembling as possible to his comic book counterpart in both character-wise and power-wise areas.
