Dan Trachtenberg is a relative unknown, as his resume reads; directed commercials for big brands like Nike and Coke, collaborated on a Hellboy II: The Golden Army alternate reality game, and directed the internet show "Ctrl+Alt+Chicken." But wait, there's more. In August of 2011, Trachtenberg created a short film, Portal: No Escape, based on the popular, Portal, video game. The reception for the short, was incredible, the video had over six million hits in the first two months on YouTube.

Y The Last Man is the dystopian science fiction comic book series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra published by Vertigo beginning in 2002. It focuses on only man to survive the apparent simultaneous death of every male mammal on Earth. The 60-issue series was repackaged in book form and the series won five Eisner Awards.

The film is being produced by Benderspink and David Goyer, with Sam Brown and David Neustadter overseeing for New Line. Trachtenberg is separately attached to helm Crime of the Century, the Universal film which has Chris Morgan producing. That’s being scripted by Daniel Kunka. - Deadline

This is probably my favorite graphic novel of all time...and I'm excited it's moving along, but I mean I guess I wanted a bigger name to direct it.

More importantly this needs to be a TV series on FX or AMC if not HBO or Showtime

I'd much rather see a young enthusiastic director than D.J. Caruso, Louis Letterman or any other proven hack take this on. It's not easy to make into a movie, but I think it can be done.

That short film is just Bloody Brilliant...

The casting is Perfect and Kent King playing 355 is just perfect and she's Hot as well...

I just cannot see how they can cram it all into just one movie...This would make a perfect Trilogy or even better a TV Show but I am not going to complain either way...

Looking forward to seeing this progress into a real movie now...

@Aussyace
Unfortunately, the short that was linked at the bottom, was NOT done by Dan, who will be apparently doing the feature, it was done by another talented creator that I have worked with before Christian Cardona

So we shall see.

I would like to read this. Is there one book that contains all the issues or do I have to get multiple books?

The deluxe edition has all the issues (60) in five books.
I'm not really sure it can be done right in one movie. I think Y: The Last Man would work better as a tv show like GoT, with a few episodes per season.

this has the watchmen feeling all over again they can't make this into a movie. Try making Sandman into a movie then I will probably give up on Hollywood.

Movie won't be able to do this series justice. I agree with the other comments here about it being better suited to a tv series, like The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. Would love to see it done by HBO or AMC
