Sigur Rós To Appear On GAME OF THRONES Season 4

After cameos from Snow Patrol and Coldplay members in earlier seasons, HBO have tapped the Icelandic post-rock group to appear in their excellent fantasy drama series next year. I really hope they're tasked with writing a song for an episode too..

Entertainment Weekly report that members of Icelandic band Sigur Rós are set to cameo in the fourth season of Game Of Thrones. Word is that showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss are huge fans, and have brought in Jón Þór “Jónsi” Birgisson, Georg Hólm and Orri Páll Dýrason to shoot scenes in Croatia. EW say they're "sworn to secrecy on the nature of the appearance", but since they are musicians..it shouldn't be too hard to guess what they'll be doing! As well as members of Coldplay and Snow Patrol making appearances, HBO have also hired The National and The Hold Steady to perform songs inspired by lyrics in George R.R. Martin’s source novels (“The Rains of Castamere” and “The Bear and Maiden Fair,” respectively) so I'm hoping we get the same from Sigur Rós.

If you're unfamiliar with the band, here are a few of what I'd consider to be among their best tunes. Be warned, the first one may well make you ball uncontrollably.

Sigur Ros are so good, but a little soggy, now and then. They ain't a patch on Godspeed You! Black Emperor!

Godspeed You! Black Emperor is great too, however, I don't think I would compare them to Sigur Ros just because they are very different.

For the record I like Godspeed You! Black Emperor better.

Best band in the world along with Radiohead for me, Kjartan Sveinsson's departure was a HUGE lost though :(
