Why does George R.R. Martin like to kill off so many of his heroes? “I always like unexpected things", he tells Conan. "I always like the suspense to be real ... I want my readers, I want my viewers to be afraid when my characters are in danger. I want them to be afraid to turn the next page ... ” I can't really argue with that. Sure it makes for gut wrenching reading/watching, but I would take some real drama over the same old predictable hero-wins-the day stuff anytime. Anyway, not all fans feel that way and many were noticeably upset after witnessing the Red Wedding on Sunday, so Conan decided to give Martin a look at how his writing had effected them! The whole segment is well worth a watch but skip on to around 5:19 if you just want to see the reactions.
