House of The Dragon has officially entered production.

HBO has been teasing some kind of announcement throughout the day with a series of fire emojis, and the network has now revealed that cameras will soon be rolling on the Game of Thrones prequel series with a behind-the-scenes photo of what looks like a socially-distanced table read.

We also have a series of cast portraits, which you can see by following the Twitter thread below.

It was recently announced that Fabien Frankel, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best and Sonoya Mizuno have joined the cast as Ser Criston Cole, Otto Hightower, Lord Corlys Velaryon, Princess Rhaenys Velaryon and Mysaria, respectively.

They join Paddy Considine (Dead Man's Shoes, The World's End) in the lead role of King Viserys Targaryen, Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One) as Alicent Hightower, Emma D'Arcy (Truth Seekers) as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, and Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as Prince Daemon Targaryen.

House of the Dragon is being developed as a 10-episode first season, co-created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal (Colony). Condal also wrote the script with Sara Lee Hess, and will serve as co-showrunner alongside Miguel Sapochnik. The latter will direct the pilot and additional episodes.

House of the Dragon is set for a 2022 premiere.

@narrow290 - I was expecting character reveals in costumes, colorful dragon designs, sets, etc. you know, something more substantial.

@4thMaster - but the dragons are not colorful in got? Not even in the Dance of the Dragons how Martin described them, dark red, dark green etc.

I imagine this will play out like GoT season 1 and end on Viserys dying, and Cole and the Hightowers starting the civil war.
I wish them the best of luck!

Does anybody care about GoT anymore? Might be anecdotal but nobody in my circle talks about GoT anymore. People will talk about Breaking Bad, Sopranos, hell even Prison Break. Nobody talks about GoT even though many wished it religiously. It's crazy how it went from a global cultural phenomenon and now into obscurity after that 8th season.

Man a lot of people are hating on this because of the rushed final 2 seasons. Let us not forget there are 6 damn near perfect, highly re-watchable seasons! This has the potential to be badass!

I’m still cautiously optimistic/excited for this show, despite the bad taste from the finale two seasons of Game of Thrones. At least D&D are thankfully not involved.

It's wild how much the last two seasons killed my hype for any fantasy drama shows set in this universe. Hopefully this one turns me around again though
