Watchmen Letter Writing Campaign

Watchmen Letter Writing Campaign

The latest news about the Watchmen legal battle is that there is no settlement in sight. And with the declared goal of 20th Century Fox being to stop the release of Watchmen, WE, the comic book movie fans have decided to mount a letter writing campaign. Geeks Unite! Join us in our effort to keep the Watchmen movie in March!

It seems the petition against Fox, started here at ComicBookMovie.com, hasn't made any difference in the matter. Stronger means are required. That is why we are asking YOU, the fans, to do more.

IMPORTANT UPDATE! Originally we were going to use our comments section (below)to let you tell them (especially Fox) to end this NOW for the fan's sake. We were then going to print out all your heartfelt pleas on flattened treebark (also called paper) put it in an envelope sealed with our tears, and mail it to the decision makers at Fox and WB.

Instead we've come up with something a little more clever, and it won't restrict your vocabulary like our comments area does!

Nate just finished designing some letterhead that users can print out and send to Fox! At first glance, it looks like the iconic Watchmen smiley face, but upon closer inspection you'll discover that he's actually frowning because he's so upset over this legal battle and possibly missing his launch date!

You can click on the thumbnail, or click here to download and print the official ComicBookMovie.com Watchmen Campaign letterhead (it's in PDF). We've even included the address for Fox on the letterhead!

For those that want to go really crazy, we've taken loganoneil's suggestion and created a second letterhead with the address for Marvel. There's nothing better than a good old-fashioned double-whammy, so go crazy and let BOTH Fox and Marvel know how you feel! Download the Marvel letterhead here!

OK, so you're so pissed off that a double-whammy just doesn't seem like enough? Need another place to vent? How about Warner Brothers? For those so inclined, Nate's created another letterhead specifically for WB. Download the Warner Brothers letterhead here!

We have waited 20 years for this movie to be made. Maybe there is ONE lawyer or bean-counter who can be swayed by a massive geek outcry. Possibly there might be some movie executive in a position of power that hasn't lost his soul to corporate greed--who's heart isn't as black as coal.

It's possible. Maybe a long-shot, but let's give it a try anyway.

Give them your best arguments and most poignant desires. Use humor, anger, even insults if you feel like it and let'em know how this legal crapola REALLY makes you feel.

They already have the Dragonball Evolution movie. Are they trying to stop the movies so everyone can be stuck on Dragonball evolution. I really cant wait to see both movies. Still shouldent be so greedy

Spoon366 - 12/30/2008, 12:23 PM
Well Fox has already [frick]ed up Dragonball, so why do they want a chance to [frick] up Watchmen. You've had the damn rights for 20 years and didn't do anything with them. Now you see how good of an opportunity it is and want in. But chances are, you'll [frick] it up too. Leave comic book movies to WB, they seem to be on the right track.

Warner Bros is filled with bumbling idiots... But Fox is a racist, inconciderate, greedy, and phony network with sh*t shows. They cancel all their good stuff, and never know what they got when they have it. Then when something does well, they want it or they want to crush it. How cold hearted, and blind can a network be? You never mix comics with polotics. They will lose money, their stock will drop, and Fox will f*ckin burn for this. I am a firm beleiver that the comic fans rule the entertainment world. Look what Spider-Man, Iron Man, and The Dark Knight did... Look what The Spirit, and look what any other crap someone has tried to feed a comic fan, look what it did. If it won't be released on time, Fox will burn, and execs will jump out of windows and land on cars 60 stories below. Mark my words, the Watchmen better come out on March 6th, we own that damn movie, nobody else. The fans own that movie, not even crazy bat sh*t Alan Moore. Fox doesn't own theat movie, nor does Warner Bros., nor does Snyder... This is our damn movie we waited on for over 20 f*ckin years you sons of bitches! IT IS OUR MOVIE! Now... If they don't comply.... Let's burn that mother f*cker down...

I say, "Fox bootlegs for all!" (for EVERYTHING Fox!!). If this is all about the cash, let's hit 'em where it REALLY hurts! Why GIVE your hard-earned money to the corporation when we can all 'Captain Jack' Fox into oblivion (not that I would condone such an illegal activity ;) )?

How do you like them apples, Fox? Still want to screw with "Watchmen"?

Fox had their chance and blew it. Now because they know the movie is going to make money, they are fighting for it.

I already shoplifted X-Men 2, looks like the same fate lies for Wolverine Origins. Then I'll burn copies and hand em out for free, while persuading people to not buy the movie and just get it from me... DVD quality!

This is beyond stupid. Delaying this movie is on the level of stupidity of that of the last 8 years of presidency in the usa, it rivals hilter, it is beyond retarded. It could win an award in the special Olympics.

Fox knew that this film was being made by Warner Bros. and decided to do this late enough to [wiener] everyone over.People worked like dogs to get this film done and deserve to have there work shown. However at least they are now just trying to delay it not end the release completely. But that is not cool to screw with the fans by pushing it back.

smarten up Fox, the movie isn't even yours to decide when it comes out. You didn't make it so why should you dictate it?

I will be a never-ending supporter of Fox if they force a squid ending upon WB. Go, go Fox and squid! I think Fox deserves the money. They had the rights. WB made a mistake. Boo hoo. I hope money-grubbing Fox gets it all and decides to put out a squid or no movie at all.

I guess one does have the right to protect copyrights, but iam not a judge. But I can have criticism. I can't believe that this is going so far that we have to Court case. History in the making indeed. I feel like Iam so oblivious to fox right now --I don't want to talk about it.

look Fox network we get it you guys have had a slump in almost everything you have released, but don't be a little bitch and ruin things for all of us. Your childish ways just makes you even worse people. If you didn't know it people hate you Fox. So why burn even more bridges where you will be left all alone and go under. If you where smart you would realize that giving people what they want actually can save your Network, for years you have been trying to tell people what they should like, open your eyes listen to the people. You want to make money, you want the big dollars and not chump change like you have been getting listen to the fans.
We do have the power to shut you down Fox, its only a matter of time. Just watch your numbers fall and see what kind of people you have been messing with. Just one word to get a generation on board "historic" everyone wants to be part of history and how "historic" would it be for a Network that has been around for so long to finally come to and end.

crappybumbum - 12/30/2008, 1:15 PM
Well I agree with a number of people, now that Watchmen will be a great success, Fox wants it and they shouldn't get it cuz they didn't work for it. They didn't work hard to even make the movie. Just when the movie is completed, they sue Warner Bros. for the rights. Maybe they planned it all along??? Idk but seriously, Fox is being a little child about it and I just want to see this movie already. Let it go, Fox...let it go...

I'm sure they'll get one good movie out one day...but not now, Just let us watch the Watchmen cuz if you don't, then who WILL watch the Watchmen, huh???

First of all Fox movies based on comic books or graphic novels have left people empty wanting more but never getting what they want WB has granted had their screwups but they have delivered on their movies except with superman. this little debate over who had rights should just die Fox had their chance they blew it WB has the rights case over.

If FOX wants to have chance at making the money back that they poured into litigation, they'll release this movie ON MARCH SIXTH!!!! Otherwise they'll have a lot of angry, download crazy, fanboys on their hands.

Fox.

Don't be a frakkin' douche. Please, just work something out so we can see this movie when we're suppose to.

You really don't want to make the nerd community angry.

You wouldn't like us when we're angry.

I believe they did plan it all along, Crappybumbum. I think it was a caculated maneuver on their part. They were not sure if Watchmen would be a success so they decided to let WB make the film, and if it bombed then they wouldn't have another stinker on their belt. If it was looking to be a success (which it is), then they would come out of the woodworks and claim that they should own it, pay off what WB invested in it, then reap the profits themself. Pretty damn smart, but greedy.

Lets not forget, though, that WB is just as much to blame. Given the indy comics film boom going on (Hellboy, Sin City, 30 days of night, Hellboy, ect.) they knew that releasing the king of all Indy comics, the Watchmen (more do to the indy comic feel rather than being an indy comic itself since the characters, plot and climax where exact opposite of what was going on in mainstream comics at the time), would be an immediate success. Since Fox was acting stupid and sitting on a golden egg, WB probably figured that they would just go ahead and make the film right away without securing all the rights, then deal with whatever fallout with Fox might happen later because of the massive gains they would reap from releasing it during this indy boom. Their own impatience and blind greed has put the film in as much jeapordy as Fox.

Hmm... this sounds like a great topic for my papers next editorial.

Bitching is pointless, people. Ranting on an on-line forum about how unfair this whole mess is without actually DOING something is kinda like jerking off to internet porn - somewhat self-gratifying, but in the end not very productive. Like I said before - "Bootlegs and Boycotts!" 'Captain Jack' their asses to death (on ALL their movies, not just 'X-Men: Origins' - DON'T GIVE THEM A DIME!!!!!) and petition Marvel (and any other comic company) to not do business with Fox ever again. WE are the consumers! WE control demand! It's our spending dollars that dictate terms on how and what they produce. So they want to play dirty? Well, two can play that game. Hit them where they'll REALLY feel it - their BOTTOM LINE! Time for some guerilla capitalism tactics...

I dunno if this is the right one (I can't seem to find an e-mail address), but here's a link to Marvel.com's feedback page. I've already filled mine out and told them what I think of their association of Fox!

http://www.marvel.com/company/index.htm?sub=feedback_current.php

"While I am a HUGE comic book movie fan, it pains me (to no end) to discover that your partner for the upcoming 'X-Men: Origins" film (20th Century Fox) has pulled a major legal 'fast-one' on another unrelated movie 'The Watchmen'. Now I understand that this project is not Marvel-related, but as a comic book fan, I disgusted that you are 'in-bed' with a company that would resort to such underhanded tactics as a last-minute lawsuit to delay the release of a film, all in pursuit of the almighty dollar. The idea of it really makes me question whether or not to continue to purchase Marvel at all. While I was looking forward to the release of the new 'X-Men' film, I cannot in good conscience watch ANY Fox films so long as this litigation continues. Please keep this in mind for your future projects. I have posted a link to this page on several comic book fan websites, so be prepared for a slew of like-minded responses..."

...whaddaya' guys think?

Schooperman87 - 12/30/2008, 3:12 PM
Fox makes money because of fans like us, now they want to make us wait longer than we already have just because they wanna make a buck off of something that they had nothing to do with. They had all the time in the world to do something with Watchmen, but no, they sat on their asses and didn't to a damn thing with it. For the past 20 years they have been sitting on a potential gold mine, but instead of letting it sit there and collect dust WB decided to do something with it. Now that Fox sees the positive response from the general public, they want to take all of the credit. I hope Fox burns to the ground...

I agree with loganoneil as well. Fox is screwing up something that everyone has been waiting for. Why does it always have to be the fans who suffer. If they want to delay a movie pick something that sucks. Watchmen actually looks like Zack Synder did a pretty decent job of staying true to the comic. Sure some stuff will be different but what can we do. I rather synder doing it than anybody else. Delay wolverine origins for christ sake, it looks like they screwed that up pretty bad. Sabertooth is a joke, gambit looks horrible not to mention the other characters. SAVE WATCHMEN, it should release march 6th like it is supposed and any other day later than that is a insult!

Note that we've changed our strategy with our letter campaign (noted above)!

Rather than try and filter through all of the comments, I've designed a "ComicBookMovie.com Watchmen Letter Campaign" letterhead that users can download, print and send to Fox. The letterhead even has the address to send it to (thanks to phantomofthenet who posted it in the comments area of the "Fox Wins Back Watchmen Rights! Judge Rules Against Warner Bros!" article)!

The link to download is above, as well as a thumbnail of what the letterhead looks like. It even features the Watchmen smiley face, but with a frown instead!

Let's get together and send a message to Fox that WE WANT TO WATCH THE WATCHMEN!
Hyson
Hyson - 12/30/2008, 3:39 PM
You're the first and one of the few I've heard talk badly upon Wolverine, rorschach19. Most are just talking about avoiding the movie. I disagree with you wholly on your judgments. Obviously, these are opinion-based though. "Not to mention the other characters." Is it just me, or does the Blob look pretty cool? Must just be me. It is not an insult to release it at a later date. It isn't just the fans suffering. Fox is suffering their potential monetary losses. They could be making loads off of this movie. WB is losing credit as a legitimately working company. Snyder is losing respect because HE ISN'T USING THE SQUID ENDING. THE PROPER ENDING. THE ONLY WAY THAT WATCHMEN COULD CONTEND WITH THE AWESOMENESS THAT IS WOLVERINE IS BY USING A SQUID ENDING. AMEN.

Nathan, what about hitting Fox on two fronts? What about putting pressure on Marvel? How about creating a letterhead to be sent to Marvel Corp? If we also pressure them, not only would Fox have us to deal with us, but the big dogs at Marvel demanding that they 'clean house' just to keep THEIR fanbase happy!

Awesome! I just added a link in the article above to a "Fox" letterhead.

Note that it's the main "Marvel Entertainment, Inc." office/address. I *think* that's their main one, and the one that will get the most attention if they're flooded with letters.
