Fan-favorite Hayley Atwell, who portrayed Peggy Carter in the Captain America films and will return to the role in Joss Whedon's upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron, will also thankfully be gracing our TV screens with her presence next January in her own series: Agent Carter. The first season will consist of 8 episodes and will air on ABC during Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s winter hiatus. The series will focus on Peggy's life post-Cap and how she eventually helped start the organization formerly known as S.H.I.E.L.D

Amongst other things, she reveals that the series will start shooting near the end of September giving her a few weeks to get into tip-top shape. She also spoke in length about her favorite part about playing Peggy:

"My favorite part is something the audiences haven't seen yet. It's the development of her character throughout the series which will be someone who is kind of more three-dimensional, something that women can relate to, as not just the competent, strong, intelligent woman in this workforce, but the psychological, emotional cost. What it takes for a woman to have to sacrifcie personal relationships in order to find her place in the world and to fulfill her kind of destiny."

Check out her full interview with TVLine's Michael Ausiello below:

It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark.

Is this an 8 episode mini-series or an ongoing show? Is this on Netflix or ABC? I haven't been paying attention to this at all.
JoeMomma29
JoeMomma29 - 8/5/2014, 2:59 PM
@ Yoss

This will be on ABC so when Agents of Shield go on hiatus for a few weeks Agent of Carter will show, and then back to Agents of Shield.

@Joe - But it is a limited run right? Like it is only this season and not an ongoing thing?

It's a first season with 8 episodes. If people like it, there will be more seasons, hopefully.

It's gonna be so good!

@ Yoss

Well it has been picked up for one limited full season, if that makes any sense. And if the ratings are there I am sure it will get picked up for a second season with more episodes.

"Why the hell is this getting made......."

Because they realized women like the character and thus there's an audience for her? By that logic was anyone asking for the Guardians of the Galaxy?
DeusExSponge

BlueHero - It's not a movie, it's from a British TV series called 'Black Mirror'. That particular GIF is from Season 2, Episode 1.
MediaMan

Why is this getting made? Because she's a solid character, and it's something different. Good for Marvel. I'll be tuning in.

I keep saying this, but I'm pretty sure Hayley Atwell is more excited for this show than anyone else.

I got her autograph in San Diego. She is one of those people who look even better in person than in photoshopped pictures. Now that's an accomplishment.

Of all of the comic book television shows being produced, this is the one I'm most interested in. I like the lead, I like the time period, and I like the concept. There is no downside of it to me.

I'd honestly rather see things like this then half-realized, TV-budget versions of major characters.

After 9 movies by Marvel, Hayley is without question the most beautiful actress in the entire series. She is also the only female lead/love interest to have good onscreen chemistry with her Male lead.
PeterDarker121
PeterDarker121 - 8/5/2014, 8:36 PM
Hayley also co-stars in the Jimi Hendrix biopic which will be in limited release next month (along with Ruth "The Girl in the Flowered Dress" Negga), I might add..!
