AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Chloe Bennet Covers Chicago Splash Magazine
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star and Chicago-native, Chloe Bennet, graces the cover of Chicago Splash Magazine's February 16-22 issue. Come check out her interview as she discusses her rise to fame as well as the show's slow start. Also, check out photos from her cover shoot.
When it comes to origin stories, it might be hard to top 21-year old Chloe Bennet. Prior to being cast on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Bennet was a fairly normal teenager living near the United Center in Chicago, the only girl amongst 6 brothers. At the age of 15, her life took a bit of turn when she was discovered by Nettwerk Music Group, a group that had been looking to create a Chinese pop artist. After she convinced her parents to let her take the opportunity, she flew off to China and a few months later, her first single, "Uh-Oh" released. She performed in China for 2 years before eventually coming to the realization that the pop star life was not for her and she decided to return to the United States to become a struggling actor.
However, her struggle didn't last very long as she landed a recurring role on USA's Nashville fairly quick and less than a year after that, she landed the starring role of Skye on one of the most anticipated shows of the season, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Despite the massive hype, the show failed to live up to its lofty expectations as critics and fans quickly realized that the show was not everything they had hoped it would be. The slow pace of the first half of the season was heavily criticized and as a result the show has seen its ratings steadily drop throughout the course of its rookie season.
Bennet isn't worried though, she says the plot setup is over and the next few episodes will be quite action-packed. She advises viewers not to lose faith as everything in the story, no matter how random it may seem, is a vital part to the big picture. She says "no detail should go unnoticed."
“Marvel is always so fantastic at telling stories,” she explains. “But in the movies, you only have 2 ½ hours or so. We have 22 hours, so it’s a lot of setup to make it really intricate and get all the fine details that [Joss] Whedon does so well. Everything is going to come together, and it’s going to blow everyone’s minds.”
She teases that the action is expected to get particularly intense for her character, whose storyline is one of the most mysterious on the show: “Basically, we don’t know what I am. We don’t know who my parents are, we don’t know what my parents are. And there’s even more that we could not know about,” Bennet says. “I get the scripts and I’m like, ‘What?!’ literally out loud. I’m sure my neighbors think I’m weird.”
