Ever since Agent Phil Coulson was killed in The Avengers, and then resurrected in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, everyone – including the cast of the show, wondered if Coulson would ever meet back up with the Avengers, and reveal everything that has happened. Based on everything that Marvel has been doing in the past few years, Coulson confronting the Avengers doesn’t look to be a possibility.

However, in a recent interview with Digital Spy, Clark Gregg revealed that he still wants it to happen, but says it’s solely up to the people at Marvel. ”I think it was important [early on] to establish that that's not what the show is. It's really up to the people at Marvel “ He then added, ”Literally all of [the Avengers actors], at different times in different interviews - have been really generous about wanting to be part of it. I hope that seems like the right thing to do at some point.”

Gregg, later in the interview, then said how he appreciated all the love the character got once his resurrection was complete. "To have people around the globe posting pictures of #CoulsonLives carved in some sand in the Sudan, we were like... seriously?! That's so meaningful to me.” Even though Clark Gregg enjoys putting on show for the fans, he also enjoys the fact that he gets a vacation. “And y'know, it gets to be the summer and it gets a little saturated and I'm on there much less during my hiatus. It's nice to have a little break. Sometimes I want to be away from it. Certainly sometimes I need to know a little bit less about what people think about how I look in a certain episode!" I don't even know when the hell he would come back. What, is he gonna show up during the middle of Infinity War? Yeah, try not getting instantly vaporized in that scenario, Coulson.

although i wouldent mind it it would make no sense i think it would be for the best if his character died in AOS, maybe quake can make a tiny cameo in infinity wars then?

If he comes back then it's gonna have to mean something and really effect the Avengers. Can't just be a lame ass throw away

At this point, the only place Coulson can show up is Infinity War. And with all that's going on in that movie, I'm not sure his return can be shoehorned in. I would LOVE it, but I don't see the Russos embracing that idea.

However, I think Marvel owes the fans something, so I propose getting one of the main Avengers to show up Season 4 of Agents of SHIELD (which might be its last season, according to some reports). Basically use the one Avenger, and here I think Chris Evans as Cap, since he's more affordable than RDJ, to resolve the plot thread. Then we can just assume that Cap tells Tony off camera, they talk it out, process all the lies, and then move on before we see the characters again in the next film. The AoS audience, who are really invested, will have closure, and the films do not have to directly deal with it.

Boom.

What about in the Inhumans film? It would make sense him appearing there.

@Th0rOdinson @WakandasSoul Yeah, just catched up on that, thank you. A shame, it would be a good opportunity to approximate the film and TV universes.

Meh. His character sucks. Hopefully, he dies soon.

Coulson isn't returning to the films, it would need too much complicated explanations that would have no relevance to the film plots. Almost as certainly the Avengers aren't going to appear in AoS, unless maybe some of them in the final episode of the whole series, if they can plan for it beforehand and decide to go out with a bang.

I think their best option would have been to have a scene somewhere in season 2 where someone mentions the Avengers and how they still think Coulson is dead, and Coulson responds with something like "What? You think I didn't tell them after Fury appointed me as the director? They would have found out sooner or later anyway, better I come to them with explanations before that." After that movies and AoS could retain their courses. So much has happened in the movies since Coulson's death that it doesn't have to be mentioned ever again, so people who just watch movies could assume Coulson is still dead, and those who also watch tv could assume that the Avengers know that Coulson is alive, they just don't happen to ever mention it during their film adventures. Maybe it wouldn't be too late even now, but iirc the happenings around Age of Ultron in AoS, namely Coulson communicating through Maria Hill, suggested that the Avengers weren't still supposed to know about Coulson being alive. Which is quite dumb.

It would be so [frick]ing stupid to kill coulson off in aos, it would be a huge slap in the face to the fans who love and watch the show.

I still think it should have happened, while they were filming Age Of Ultron, by reintroducing the Marvel One-Shots, and put it on the Ultron blu-ray. Have the Avengers meet up at their new base, after cleaning up Sokovia. Coulson is waiting there to reveal everything that has happened so far, funny banter and emotion happens. Coulson says he is rebuilding SHIELD and if they ever need help, call him

It would be quite fitting to have him reveal this in a One-Shot. Its where Agents of SHIELD technically had its beginnings as they put more focus on Coulson. Plus it would have been perfect, the One-Shot would have tied into the events of Age Of Ultron, it would have been the perfect half way point between Coulson randomly turning up in the movie (confusing the hell out of non-AOS fans) and all the budget being spent on bringing the Avengers into AOS...why the heck didnt they do this?

Also, when Infinity War comes around, it NEEDS to be a huge cross-media event. On top of being the focus of the two part movie, Agents of SHIELD (if its still on) needs to have the team be battling a threat connected to Thanos (even if it was Nebula turning up to do a job for Thanos, and she works with HYDRA remnants to do it), and a finale can be a balls out battle happening at the same time as the events in the movie (maybe it could be the perfect evolution of the previous seasons while also, tying with the overall MCU). There needs to be another Defenders mini-series dealing with the heroes defending the Earth while the Avengers are fighting Thanos in space....seriously, Infinity War cant just be a simple finale, it needs to be something special to wrap up this chapter in the MCU

How about if Coulson and the core Avengers are sitting around eating dinner in the post-credits scene of a Black Widow movie? :-)

Now, I just have to get this thing off my chest, so I'll say it here where likely nobody will see. Here's a spoiler warning for those who haven't watched the 3rd season episodes:

You know, I'd love for Fitz and Simmons to end up together, marry and have lots of children, but if it's not to be, then please don't keep pushing this bullcrap brother-sister relationship around, since it's clearly not what Fitz wants. Just settle a man for Simmons once and for all so Leo Fitz can stop dreaming and move on, don't mess with the kid's emotions anymore, for God's sake. Really, either make them have wild sex or stop this cringe-inducing affection between them.
